My supportive and loving wife recently told me that "if I had fewer guns, maybe she and my girls could love them more." Or something very close to that.

She really has a valid point. My girls are only 9 & 11, so teaching them to shoot their 22's along with their other "must have" AR-15's, Glocks, J-frames, M1 Garands, Wilson Combat 1911's and more, is really overwhelming. So I sold a boat load of nice S&W's K and J Frame revolvers and bought two expensive N-Frames. This Pre-29 and a Pre 27.
I think after the dust settled I have 7 fewer revolvers now.

Part of fooling around with my collection is a nice way to escape the rigors of weekly Chemo treatments I do for Stage IV Colon Cancer. I think my wife escapes by working out a lot. I also watch a bit of TV, which I never did prior to cancer. She works out and I indulge myself. I don't have the right degree to tell you what's going on there, but I now feel guilty for not trying to exercise LOL.

So much for the wall of text and on to the revolver.

S159907 shipped 2-6-1957 per Mr. Jinks letter.
A WAG on my part makes me think it was one of the latter 5 Screws?

Does anyone have an approximate idea how many 4", Pre-29, 5 screw revolvers S&W produced?

If I understood the seller of this gun correctly, it sort of came out of the woodwork. It was "Grandpa's gun" if I remember correctly.

That is a beauty Emory.

Can't help on the production numbers, but I bet Doc will have that info.

You have good taste, where was I when you were selling those J frames?
BTW: I did a similar downsizing in volume and up-grading in desirable N frames, much to my delight!
Best to you with your malady...

I don't know were you were!
I posted two high condition Pre-34's here at very reasonable prices and the only nibble I got was a Forum Member wanting to buy the red box separately.

Thanks for the kind words on my new Pre 29.

Great looking 44 Magnum and a complete package with the presentation case and accessories. 4-inch 44 Magnums did not begin to ship in quantity until January of 1957 and were largely replaced by 4-screw guns by the end of May. It is not known how many were made, but Mr. Jinks has stated approximately 6500 44 Magnums were made with a 5-screw frame and I would "guess" around 1000 to 1500 had a 4-inch barrel.

Great looking .44 magnum! Grandpa didn't shoot it much and took good care of it.
I have one in the 167xxx serial range that was shipped in March 1957.
Congratulations on your purchase.

Very nice package. I really like the look of the 4 inchers. BTW is Tsaina's the person's name who it was shipped too?

I'm going to take a guess here but I think it his one of his daughters names....I saw a previous thread with a pre27 with another females name on it. I think that is his way of cataloging who gets what :D

Yes, I have two daughters. Tsaina age 9, and Amelia age 11.
I have 3 ring binders with photo's and descriptions of all my guns and who gets what when I'm gone.

Hence the well meaning wife suggesting a few less guns would get "more love".

Cancer is a horrible diesese ( stage 4 colon cancer) but I try to take it in stride, and I have the fun of a little more serious thought into the collecting of my wife's and daughters guns.

It is what it is, but I feel blessed in so many ways.

Emory, that's a beautiful specimen of its kind. It impresses me, and I'm not even as interested in .44 Magnums as many around here.

I am actually more impressed with you for waging the good fight against the bad enemy that has invaded you. Keep the faith, and never doubt that you have friends and supporters whom you have never even met. I am holding good thoughts for you and your family.

Emory:

Thanks for sharing your beautiful 44 Mag. Wishing you and your family all the best in your battle.

Fight on!

Emory,
Nice looking pre 29, hows she shoot? LOL
Looks like the girls are having fun, I hope everything is going good.

Regards

Mitch,
I actually zeroed the Pre-29 with Corbon's 165 Grn JHP. It's a leisurely 1300 fps if I recall correctly. Kind of a 44 Magnum Light.

It only took me a couple of rounds as the windage was spot on, and the elevation needed to come up a few inches at 15 yards.

I'm careful with my safe queens, but I currently have all shooters.
The best laid plans go awry and all that, but I plan on keeping the Pre-29 forever, and I think it will mean more to my girls if I shoot and carry it a bit. Well it means more to me anyway!

Emory

Given any, or no excuse, and I'll post photo's of my girls!
Good for you, Emory!
Beautiful family you have there - they deserve beautiful guns.
We will be praying for you in your fight with cancer.
Keep remembering the important things in your life.
Blessings,
JP
