Photos of your antique S&W Model Top Breaks

twaits;
Thanks for the comment, but you'll notice I didn't add any amplifying
remarks. It may look like a bicycle gun, now, but it started its career
as a standard-length barrel. What I received was a cut-down model that was restored; with a new front sight.
I enjoyed posting the pics almost as much as I do shooting it, but
I can take no credit for the work, just the pics.
I was sneakily flying false colors, but it Was fun.
I've seen some of your pics, and those from other members, and it has inspired me to start collecting in a VERY small way. Love getting
a piece of our country's history!
If I've offended anyone, I'm sorry. TACC1

Well it doesnt really matter to me how it started it's life. It's a "Bicycle Gun" now in style, and it looks GREAT. Nice work and keep on collecting!
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your guns.

Awesome thread guys and gals!

My local toy store has a top break for sale. I'm thinking it's a .32 caliber...maybe a .38 S&W. It's in pretty rough shape and he's asking $350 for it.

Is that too much?

Does anybody here carry and/or fire these old timers? Or are they just for admiration purposes only?

If that gun you're looking at is pretty rough, $350 is pretty high. (although I've got a hunch that the reasonably priced ones are soon to be a thing of the past).

There are many of us who go to great lengths to safely load for and shoot these little pocket pistols. There are many more who simply shoot them with available factory ammo, and don't worry about it. I just got a box of Remington factory ammo for my 38, and it just "feels" a little hotter than what I want to run through my gun. I know that's not very scientific, but I'd rather stay on the wimpy side and enjoy my little buddies for years to come. Jim

Thanks Jim.

I was afraid it was a little high. Which is typical of this guy. He always marks his stuff up.

Is it still possible to even find .38 S&W ammo anymore?

I obviously need schooling on the old timers. I'd love to own one (or two ;)) but I don't have a clue as to what the different model numbers and variants are nor the associated jargon you collectors use when describing them.

All I know is that this particular revolver got me intrigued in them.

glock 'em down;
I got some 38 S&W from a gentleman in Shelbyville. If you'd
like, I'll see if he has more available. That sure is a great looking
gun. TACC1

Thanks for the offer, but I doubt that I will ever get one of those beauties from yesteryear.

The pics I posted ARE NOT my revolver. Digi-shots is the owner of that gorgeous sixgun.

Here is one that I picked up a few weeks ago. It is a modern engraving job done on an old 5th model 38 Safety Hammerless (it seems to perfect to be anything else). I would sure like to find out who did the engraving. If any of you have any ideas would you let me know. Some of you may have seen this one on the S&WCA side of the forum. I hope you enjoy it, I sure do.

This DA .44 used to be mine. The ex-wife took it and many more with her when she ran off 25 years ago.

I've been looking at and enjoying these pictures for months now. I decided to show pics of my favorite top break. It is a 32 Safety Hammerless with factory lanyard ring. Some of you have seen it before. It is one of two known to exist today. But I now have a new holy grail gun because I have reputable information about a 2 inch 32 with factory butt swivel trading hands about 30 years ago in California. I wrote an artical about the one pictured here in the S&WCA Journal a couple of years ago. If anyone knows about the 2 incher please send me an email even if it is not for sale.

WOW!! This has to be one of the greatest threads I have ever seen on the S&W forum. This one has been better than a stroll through a museum. Thank you all for sharing the wonderful pictures of your oldtimers.
Makes me wish I had one!
Thanks again.
