Picked up a 9VE today

If anyone had seen my post in the intro section, they would know my plan to pick up a Sigma in .40 S&W after work today...

Well, I suffered through the 4 hours and made it to the shop where I was buying the gun. Ideally, I wanted a .40 S&W. Unfortunately, they only had the 9MM. So, I looked at some of the other .40's they had and I either wasn't satisfied with them or they were out of my price range. So, I held the Sigma again and decided that I would go with the 9MM. After all, I'm only 23 and will have plenty of time to get at LEAST one pistol in .40.

That being said, I'm happy with how the pistol feels in my hands. It seems to just sit perfectly. Dry firing brought about my opinion of the trigger pull weight; it's a bit cruddy. It's definitely something I'll have to get use to, but that just means more range time. Unloaded, she seems a bit top heavy but that's to be expected. I fully loaded a mag and inserted it, but didn't chamber and add another round, and it seems pretty well balanced.

I won't get to fire the Sigma until tomorrow. After I do, I'll post some more opinions. After I've had her for a while, and have had more than one range outing, I will be sure to follow-up and let everyone know how she does for me.

Spend the coin to get some AZoom snap caps..sit down in front of your TV, throw in an old John Wayne cowboy movie, and start shooting the bad guys. You only have to pull the slide back just enough to reset the trigger and that way you don't eject the snap cap. Pull the trigger several hundred times and you will be amazed at how much smoother the trigger will get!

Ok, so I put 150 rounds through the Sigma this afternoon. I am very pleased with this firearm after just the one trip to the range.

The ammo for today was 100 rounds of TulAmmo and 50 WWB. Overall, I had no FTF's and no FTE's. Every round fed flawlessly and was sent downrange without issue.

Despite the trigger being as heavy as it is, it wasn't really a hindrance like some people claim it to be (possibly because I use my hands a lot, therefore reducing the likelihood of fatigue). After putting just 150 rounds through, the trigger already feels a bit smoother than when I brought it home. Regardless, I would still like to perform the trigger job that everyone has posted about but I can't get the pin to pop out of the frame. Regardless, I'm still looking into it.

As it stands, I would like to put another 350 flawless rounds through before I start to carry it. Like I said in the original post, I will post the results of further outings and if I have any issues I might need resolved.

Don't think you're missing anything getting the 9 instead of the .40. And 9 is a LOT cheaper, easier to shoot, and good enough in a good JHP load. Anyone with decent hand strength, whether from shooting DA revolvers or working with their hands, will have no problem with the Sigma.

I am mostly a wheel gunner/1911 type, but just laid in a second 9VE because they work, I can hit with it, and the price is definitely right. That's after trying Glocks and SIGs.

I've owned my 9ve for about 4 months now.

No remorse, whatever. Over 1000 rounds fired and no issues.
I carry it about 50% of the time now,alternating with my 638 depending on what I am doing and wearing.

Starting to look for another one for my oldest daughter, she loves mine.

Excuse me but, I'm mostly a wheel gun kinda guy but am looking at "little black guns" and educating myself before I buy. So, two questions; what does the "ve" stand for in 9ve? Also how do the triggers compare as Sigme vs SD? thanks...

the VE is just another variant in model change. Not a acronym for anything. VE being the latest model..
I personally have never shot a SD, but apparantly the SD's trigger is lighter poundage wise than the sigma's.
I believe it may be alittle smoother too but the APEX has kits for the SD's trigger and nothing for the sigma's yet!!

Well, like I said I had originally wanted the .40. Had I really thought I'd be missing out I would have just had them order me one. I'm happy with what I walked out with and plan on getting my money's worth out of it.

Just today I finally had the chance to fire my Sigma 9. I purchased it online and received it 10 days ago. I put 85 rounds through it at distances between 3.5 yards and 15 yards. All but two rounds hit center mass, and I haven't fired a pistol in over 25 years! Now, granted, I was raised with guns from a very young age, so that was part of it. However, the weapon performed perfectly. Not one problem. Yes, the trigger pull is pretty stiff and it is a long pull, but my hand and trigger finger are not tired. I am very happy with this weapon and plan to make it me EDC once I get my CCW. Just my 2 cents worth.

I use a Don Hume Model 715M. I have been using Hume leather for years and have never been dissapointed in fit or function. At very good prices.

I was the complete opposit, I went in planning on buying a 9 but I made the mistake of going with a LEO friend of mine who convinced me to get the 40 instead. Though I will admit that it was fun watching the wife shoot it....

+1 on the Don Hume holsters, I use the JIT slide when I carry OWB, it rides nice and high like I prefer.

I like my Sigma 9mm and I was going to get a Sigma 40 also but my range's suppliers had a back log on them and I got tired of waiting so I got the Sig P250c in 40sw they had on sale. Turned out to be a sweet gun.

Both of them shot with out any issues so they're both keepers. I don't care what they said about the triggers, they can be learned.

You and me both. Wouldn't be so bad had I not needed to buy a car back in March. But, thats life. What're ya gonna do, ya know?

Took a couple shots of the holster a little bit ago. Now comes the task of finding where it sits on me the best while walking, sitting, standing, etc.

I've gotta say, for picking up this holster for only $25, it fits the gun like a glove. It's got some nice material to it, but I wouldn't have minded if it were a touch thicker. It just feels a bit flimsy. The belt clip is nice and strong and the snap that holds the gun in is nice and tight as well. The retention strap is adjustable so it has a nice size piece of hook and loop material on it. All of the stitching is nice and firm, providing a sense of security in the fact that it doesn't appear that any of the stitching will come loose anytime soon.

Anyways, that's my little review of the holster. On to some pics...

Congratulations on your purchase as its a good one. I have shot mine 2250 times and have had not one problem, not one. As far as the long hard trigger, i love it. Yes the trigger is hard and long but it took me the first 100 rounds and then became a thing of the past. I went with a FOBUS paddle HK1 holster, love that holster sometimes i forget its on my hip, and i like the look of it. The cost for the holster was 23.99 with H&S 30 bucks.

I had been toying around with the idea of removing the two springs from the trigger assembly and decided today I would do it. Even though the initial trigger pull didn't bother me, sometimes I can't leave things be .

Anyways, I popped the pin out at the back of the frame, took out what I needed to, and put everything back together. Trigger wont set. Scratched my head for a second and then realized I made a simple mistake after getting distracted by something in the other room. I had put the trigger assembly back together backwards . No problem..took everything back apart and switched it around and re-assembled.

After getting it all together and dry firing a couple times, I'm quite pleased with the trigger pull in it's current state. In my mind, the gun was great as it was, and now it's a bit better. If I needed to, I could put the springs back in and it wouldn't bother me one bit. Can't wait to shoot her again come this weekend!

I certainly like my 9VE...plus it is cheaper to shoot then a 40, so I've heard. I am still having issues hitting the center of the target, however my grouping is good, just not where I am aiming. I am still getting use to the trigger pull I guess. I have been a long gun guy and recently got into handguns. So, I am a newbie when it comes to a handgun, minus a 22LR I had years back. I just enjoy going to the range...enough said.

Just thought I'd throw this in here for anyone still looking through...

I had purchased 300 rounds (total) of Remington UMC, Federal Champion, and WWB. Was able to burn through about 215-220 rounds and, through all that were fired, still no issues firing or feeding. As far as the springs being removed from the trigger assembly, not a single issue there either.

As a side note...everyone, who took a look at the Sigma, was quite pleased with it. Several people, upon finishing off a mag, said they would have to take a serious look into getting one. The only people who showed no interest or rolled their eyes were Glock owners. But hey, to each their own.

Really nothin goin on with the Sigma right now; haven't had a chance to get out and shoot her again. Just a little bit ago I ordered a Pachmayr grip sleeve for it. Hopefully it will be here Saturday morning so I can throw it on before I head to the range for a little bit. I've got about 100 rounds I want to put through her and Saturdays off are at a premium right now so 10 rounds or 100, I'm jumping at the opportunity!
