I've been on the hunt for the newly introduced Glock 43 single stack 9mm. The local cop-shop down in Little Rock where I can get one with a LEO discount has a waiting list. Though I was not an enthusiastic convert I have become a fan of the Glock line, so when told there were over 100 names on the list before mine, I ventured over to another gunshop while I was in the Little Rock area to see if they had one in stock that I could at least handle and hold.

Turns out the local gunshop did have one in the case, and as I was checking it out I noticed a little Ruger LC9S Pro on the shelf next to the G43.

"Let me take a look at that Ruger 9mm" I asked the clerk.

"You're gonna like this puppy," he said when he handed it to me. "This is the new upgraded striker fired LC9. Check out that trigger."

I did and it was very impressive. In fact, I handed the G43 back to him and closely examined the Ruger. Seems I read something about it lately in one of the gun magazines I have at home. When I got home that night I dug out the magazine article for a once over and did some internet surfing checking them out. I called a couple of LE buddies to see if they'd checked out the new Ruger, but no, they were all about the new gee-whiz-bank Glock 43.

I made another trip down to Little Rock and decided to cancel my Glock 43 order from the cop-shop and I went over and bought a Ruger LC9S Pro from the gun shop. After work I went by the range and gave it a whirl and I am very impressed. The trigger is very impressive for a striker fired firearm, and it shoots very well indeed. Holds one more round (7+1) than the G43 of the same size. I only put 50 rounds through it but I can tell I may have a new found favorite BUG and concealed carry firearm.

Congrats on your newest! :)

Those LC9S's do have a great trigger for a striker fired pistol. The SR9 and 40 series do as well.

lot of range time in that grouping/now what is a decent firing timeframe? 20 sec??

I traded my LC9 hammer fired for an LC9s. I also handled the new Glock single stack while at the gun store. I did not hesitate to put down the Glock for the LC9s. The trigger was the deciding factor. So far the LC9s has been 100% reliable shooting cheap target loads or hot +P loads. I bought an N8squared IWB hoster for and it's so comfortable you hardly notice you are carrying it.

That's some good shooting by the way!

I now have experience with the Shield 9 (NMS version), the LC9S Pro, and the G43.

I can strongly recommend all three. As always, with the 9mm, use of premium ammo with a good track record can really turn the 9mm into a formidable stopper.

My cureent favorite "serious" 9mm ammo is RA9B, but I would feel right at home with RA9T, RA9TA, 9BPLE or the GDNYPD load.

Nice shooting with a brand new pistol.
Had the striker fire LC9S Pro came out back in '12 when the Shield came out, it would have been a tough decision for me.
Congrats!

Yep, my two finalists were the Shield and the LC9s.
To whittle down the field to those two, I rented a Shield, Glock 43, and the XDS and shot them side-by-side. XDS was relatively too bulky--just didn't feel right, absolutely did not like the Glock 43, and the Shield was an absolute pleasure to shoot compared to the other 3.

They didn't have an LC9s available to try out, but all the research I did pointed to the LC9s as being snappier than the Shield. So, in the end I bought my Shield and have loved it. I really did like the smooth lines of the LC9s though ;-).

big fan here too... i just got the LCP custom. between the shield and the lc9s, i see no need for the 43. i know that'll hurt the glock fan boys out there, but just my opinion. congrats on the new one.

I have fired the Glock 42 (.380) and Glock 43 (9mm) a lot at the range, borrowed from other officers who had them, and was really Jonesing for a G43 after shooting and handling them. Being a Glock fan I liked the familiarity. But, seems the LC9S Pro has one more round capacity and a more impressive trigger in the same size package. No hate from me on the Glocks, but Ruger seems to have gotten this one right.

I've held the 42 and 43. Just like the Sig 938, Kahr pm9, Ruger and other similar size guns.....tooooo small to grip and draw fast, let alone shoot.

I have an LC9s and I prefer it to any of the other recent sub-compacts for the following reasons.

1) Trigger. Just feels nicer than the Shield and XD9SC and is WAY superior to the Glock trigger.

2) Shape. I'm described as "alarmingly svelte", so any extra butt protrusion or bulkiness is magnified when it comes to concealment. The Ruger is the perfect shape for me.

One area where the XD9SC shines is sights, but it feels and conceals like a much bulkier gun.
