Hi friends!
I bought a Walther CCP for CCW a couple months ago, so have been hanging out on the Walther Forum too. Seems everyone there really likes the old favorite, the P99 of 007 fame. I found one on the localized classified site, not too far away. The seller didn't offer shipping, so it stayed for sale for over two months. It looked in nice condition, came with box and all accessories, and was the preferred "AS" trigger system. My son started a new job in that part of town a few months ago, so I thought, (always dangerous), why not take the Mrs. to see the son's new jobsite and maybe run over to this pawn shop to check out the Walther? She said, well alright, so off we went. We visited the job site, had a nice lunch, then headed to the shop. They don't carry all that many guns, but the P99 was still there and looked better in person. On top of that, I offered cash so he gave me a decent discount! I told Mrs. B, looks like it was meant to be, hon! She rolled her eyes (again) and said just please find something to sell? Haha!! I will.
Here it is, a 2021 date in probably 98%, barely fired at all!! I'm tickled.
Dave

Congratulations! The P99 is an awesome Pistol which Smith & Wesson actually drew a bit of inspiration from while designing the M&P line of semiautomatic pistols, as the M&P series is an evolution of their previous Sigma and SW99 series, with the SW99 being a pistol which S&W designed based on the P99 in collaboration with Walther.

You probably picked the perfect time to purchase a P99 too, as Walther is about to discontinue the P99, and is currently producing a final limited run of the pistols, so it's most likely that prices will begin to increase once production comes to an end.

Thanks! Just returned from the range and am very happy. There were no problems at all and it was actually above 50 degrees outside! The trigger is a tad mushy feeling to me, but it's not going to be a CCW weapon, so I'll just get used to it. If I wanted to put more money in it, I would look into a stainless guide rod to help with the recoil a bit. The bore axis is pretty high and with my small hands it's hard to control as well as the CCP or even a revolver. But I done good.

I have the Smith version and like it a lot. Points very naturally for me. Friend has two Walter versions, loves them.

I'm intrigued you find that the CCP recoils less. Is that because the smaller grip on the CCP fits your hands better.

Nice pistol, good review. The 007 gun was a Walther PPK. In .32 acp. "Like a brick through a plate glass window."

Earlier movies yes. Later movies went to the P99, then back to the PPK. Plus some other stuff tossed in there from time to time. Roger Moore had a S&W 29 in one of his movies. Live and Let Die as I recall.

The Walther P99 with the AS trigger is one of the finest semi-auto pistols I will ever own. At one point, I swore I would never get rid of it. However, when my oldest daughter came home and went with me out to the range, she absolutely loved it and I decided to transfer the pistol to her. She was in need of a good home and selft-defense handgun, and now she has one of the best. I still have my trusty Glock 19 and Luger P08 to shoot 9x19, but will always miss the Walther.

Thanks guys. Glad you like the '99 too.
I have smaller hands, so yes, I can grasp the CCP much tighter than the high axis '99 with a wider grip. I also believe the gas system in the CCP does help with follow-up shots and the trigger is closer to a revolver with being tight. To me, so far, no biggie but the '99 AS trigger is very long and mushy. But I won't be carrying the '99 so not a big deal.

007 used various guns but the PPK is the one most fans identify as the 007 gun. I settled for a brand new unfired PPK/S last year. :D

But, speaking of Walthers, this CCP is a fine weapon and the only 9mm polymer gun that I own.

Good job on that P99! ;)

You chose wisely. And the more you shoot it the more you will like it.

I've got 3 -- 2 SW versions (both in .40, one full size and one subcompact for carry [and I do carry it]) and the Magnum Research version in 9mm.

I'd love to find a .45 (only S&W made them, Walther never did a .45) but most I've seen online are just a bit out of my current price range. (Come on income tax refund!)

I kinda cycled through most of the different Walthers for carry, but keep coming back to 3rd gen Smiths, except for the 99 and a Sig P250 in .40.

I bought my s&w sw99 in .40 when they first came out (2002ish?).

Over the proceeding years I’ve added some other great pistols to my collection like Glock 22, springfield xdm and a s&w m&p 9.

But I just can’t put that sw99 down. If I’m carrying a semiauto then it’s the sw99.

I haven't watched the movies not represented in the books. Not even all those staring Sean Connery. At some point they started to be silly.

On another note, my PPK .32 loaded weighs about the same my Sig 365 loaded. Within an ounce or two.
