I have a model 10 that needs a crown touch up and want to try the DIY spin a bolt head in lapping compound trick. What is the exact bolt I need to go get from the local hardware to do this correctly? Thanks in advance.

Recrowning won't do any good without the proper piloted cutter. If the crown is off center, (many are from the factory) you need the cutter accurately centered to the bore. Then cutting the crown will make it concentric to the bore, which is critical to accuracy.

Are you trying to solve a cosmetic problem, or a proven accuracy problem, or something else? I realize my question is a little off topic from your question about how to improve a crown, but I'm curious.

Use a Brass Round Head Bolt . The head has to be larger than the bore size . I like to use a bolt with a head about twice the size of the bore , exact size is not critical.
The old NRA Gunsmith guide says to clamp the barrel in an upright position, chuck bolt in variable speed electric handdrill , coat with valve grinding compound , run med speed and with the bolt head on the muzzle , make the drill go around in a tight circle . Years ago I cut and crowned a barrel this way but I would now buy a brass ball to use in place of the bolt.
Holding the drill in your hands and making it go in a tight circle works a lot better than it sounds. When the crown looks even all the way around you're done.

I have also (carefully) used Dremel type cones and balls, then lapping compound. I have a shooter Swedish Mauser Carbine that had been cut with a hacksaw. I crowned it myself and it shoots sub minute all day long.
