Its all about Feng Shui and symmetry my man.
Or it could be the guy isn't used to the AR style guns and how things work best on them. Mabey include some advice on how to correct his mistake could be helpful next time.

As for the sights... I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but I think they might be on backwards. It looks like the front sight would fold forward which is probably why he has it placed further back. I think the rear sight is set up to fold forward as well.
Scaredstr8, if that's the case you need to turn the sights around so that they both fold backwards.

Sights are on backwards. I know this because I am an expert at installing things every which way possible incorrectly before I get it right. And then.... sometimes I change it back cuz I liked it better the way I had it on wrong

i just got into this stuff. I appreciate all the people that actually helped me out thanks. TO the people that had to be rude thank you also. You learn from your mistakes. I am here to learn that is why i joined a forum in the first place. If no one conversed with anyone on how to do things thered be no google no yahoo no home improvment there would be nothing so thanks once again. Ask for the sights i will fix them tommorow. I figured it was right because the way the writing is on them. I figured it should face the eyes of the shooter bc that made sense at the time. But anyway thanks.

No worries... we all make mistakes now and then. This is a great place to find tips and info. Plus, we get to learn from each others mistakes as well so that we don't make them ourselves!
If people give you a hard time every once in a while, don't take it personally. By and large there is an awesome group of people here among the 15-22 owners. But they can and will poke fun at each other from time to time. So if you happen to be the target of some of that, just roll with the punches.
Anyhow, have fun shooting and keep learning!

his rear sight cant be on wrong can it? if it was on backwards it wouldnt be able to fold down because the ring would hit the guard. the way he has it is correct because the low ring shows when it is down and the high ring shows when its up. or am i totally seeing that picture wrong?

By the way... I kept my factory front sight on backwards and pulled back on the rail a couple inches just cuz I liked the looks.

If you look at the base of the sights they are aligned the same way. Look at the first picture and you can see that the front sight would fold down because the front of the base is open to allow for the pivot down and forward. The back side of it has a beveled edge going the width of the sight. This can be seen more easily in picture two.
Both of the bases are designed the same way so they would both fold forward. I suppose saying it's "backwards" could be up for discussion as he may simply prefer it that way which is fine, whatever works for him! I think that traditionally they are folded back though which is the only reason I asked when I noticed that. I wasn't making fun of the OP or anything, just pointed it out to try and help out. Functionally the only thing that would be different is adjusting the rear sight would operate in reverse, right? So you'd just have to keep that in mind when making adjustments.
Anyhow, we're all different, have different physical builds, different backgrounds and different purposes for our guns... We all need to set them up in what ever way works best for each of us, even if it may be unconventional to some people.
On this topic I have one last thought... If someone says "hey, your whatever is on backwards or wrong" and you actually prefer it the way you have it, stand your ground and say so. Sometimes something can appear wrong or odd to someone until you explain why you have it a certain way.

blah thank you for clarifying that i was looking at the actual apperture and not really the mount. was wondering why people thought they were backwards. i guess i should have paid attention a little better.

Flip up sights are also designed to support the "flipped up" portion against recoil force. For example: My MBUS front sight post body would swing forward against just a spring in the sight if installed backwards on a heavy recoil rifle. Installed correctly, the body of sight attached to the rail supports the post when flipped up. It would also catch and snag against brush and such much easier walking forward if installed backwards.
