I see the term "pinned and recessed" used when talking about revolvers.
What does this term mean and is it a good thing to be pinned and recessed?
Is my new to me Smith and Wesson model 67-3 pinned and recessed and where is this pin if my gun has one?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Pinned means pinned barrel. Recessed means recessed chambers. These features went away in about 1982. Some feel that the older revolvers are better manufactured and the P&R gives a cutoff date of 1982, so some people like them better.

If present, the "pin" goes sideways across the frame above where the barrel threads in.

"Recessed" (counterbored) charge holes make the rounds completely flush with the rear cylinder face when loaded.

Here’s a photo of a recessed cylinder. You can see each charge hole has a recess for the rim of each cartridge. M19-3.

And the second photo shows the pinned barrel of the same 19-3.

Last two photos show a non recessed cylinder and non pinned barrel of a later M66.

It takes you back to a time when the factory put more steps into making a revolver and shooters enjoyed cleaning guns more than they do today

Thank you to all that gave me information on pinned and recessed.
Very well explained, now I understand. My other Smith gun is a M&P EZ9 so this revolver is a learning curve for me.
Again, thanks for the information.

Stick around for a while, you might learn something new and maybe even sell that EZ9....
