You did not buy a safe, you bought a bread box with a key. A wrecking bar + 2 minutes = no guns and twisted metal. :(

How about a recommendation then??? I have no rifles, looking for something for revolvers and other misc valuables.

Jack, I have a couple Stack On pistol cabinets. I don't think these racks will fit. They will hold possibly 12 pistols laying down on three shelves.

I bought racks from manabout - very happy with them. A bit expensive, and require a wait - but I haven't found anything else I like as well. Will be ordering more.

Still waiting for a recommendation from Engineer 1911 for my revolvers only, no long arms. I did not buy anything yet.

Thanks for the PM recommendation, bottom line is it is an investment for my collection; you are correct Engineer1911.

Look for a good used safe. Many bargins are out there.! When people move or go out of business, they are willing to sell at a very reasonable price.

These really are nice. Must be the new stealth racks. I can't see the racks let alone the guns. Where can I get these and how will I find them when in use? I don' see any pictures.

search for Versatile Gun Racks

Only have a couple long guns, so the space behind them was pretty much wasted until I bought some Versatile 5-gun racks, and stacked them one on top of the other. Currently have 15 handguns on them as pictured, and will likely add another level soon and go to 20. These are sturdy vinyl coated racks, made in America. I found them on Amazon.

They also sell a "stacking kit" to stack the racks. It probably wasn't designed to go 3 levels high, but I created that 3rd level by using 3/8 threaded rod to combine 2 of the stacker kits together. Very pleased with the results and was able to free up room in other areas of my safe for .....you guessed it..... MORE GUNS!!:D:D

Hey Jack,
Engineer1911 suggests your targeted safe is easily compromised. Safes are a very simple concept - In general you get what you pay for (I done a ton of research). That doesn't mean you can't find a deal. There are high fire ratings, better seals blah blah blah... Always remember humidity control and safe storage practices. If you have a million dollars in inventory you buy appropriately. If you are dealing with safety from family of whatever then no big deal, but humidity control (a good seal) and safe storage practices is a must..
What I have found to be one of the best all around safes and a good range of options are the Amsec products:
AMSEC Safes ? Gun Safes, Security Products, Cash Management Home » AMSEC Safes - Gun Safes, Security Products, Cash Management
Depending on size you can buy at discount and on sale for example at Turners Outdoorsman (Cali).. The extreme high-end stuff (a nuclear bomb won't do it) is always expensive period end of store unless you buy used maybe.. I have no advice there..
Remember no safe is impenetrable but the best you need an expert and a lot of time... When you pay big for a safe you pay for something 99% of those that would could not....

Where's that member whose talented carpenter friend built him cabinets with sliding drawers full of guns in racks?

He has more pistols than many stores do and they are well stored and easily accessed, if one has the key.

That's the best setup I've ever seen. If he sees this, maybe he'll post those pics again? It's been a few years...

These are great ideas but if you have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 handguns, well, that's a bit pricey. Has anyone ever used the particle board with the holes in it that is usually used in garages or stores to hang stuff via steel pegs that hook into the holes? I use these now but for horizontal storage with the body of the handgun flat against the wall. I was thinking of using the steel pegs to hang the handgun with the muzzle against the wall (the stell rod through the bore). I have dipped all the steel rods in rubber coating but I know that some plastics and rubber attract moisture so I'm not sure about this. I guess for the larger bores I could use dowels but a .20" dowel for a .22 handgun is a bit too thin. There has to be a better way. I have my guns in a walk-in vault and need to make room for my cartridge collection (about 650 cartridges). Any ideas would surely be appreciated! Many thanks.

Actually, Stack-on has expanded their product line to include gun safes as well as gun cabinets.

Checkout their web site "Stack-on.com" under "Secure Storage". This is not a recommendation, but a clarification. :D:D

not trying to promote stack on but if it is all you can afford it is better then nothing.....In 2010 My wife and i went on a cruise....I had my fire arms locked in a stack on rifle cabinet.... we were gone five days ....came home to the front door kicked in.. after calling the cops and them clearing the house .... they came out and said my gun safe must have really done a number on the thief.... they said come inside and take a look... the normal things were gone electronics and stuff but my stack on was there and still locked badly damaged and bloody yes bloody.... most of my pry bars and hammers from my tool chest were scattered about the floor.... along with my steel cut off tools ..... apparently while trying to use it to cut open the cabinet they cut the hell out of them self......... a few days later a detective return and asked me and my wife to identify some things turned out one of my neighbors was in the emergency room with a very nasty wound that required 18 stitches to close......i am sure you guys can figure out how he got it....... so locking your guns up in something is better than nothing..... And not telling anyone what you got is better
