Platinum Ring Resize - Phoenix, AZ area

Hello all and Happy New Year.

Well, to start the new year off right, I proposed to my girlfriend (she said yes!) and gave her a platinum & diamond engagement ring. I now need to get the ring resized smaller, but cannot get that work done from where I made the purchase. Can anyone recommend a competent jeweler (jewel smith?) in the Phoenix, AZ area where I can get the ring downsized?

Not all jewelers can work with Platinum so be careful. Stay away from the "Mall Jewelers" Not being from the Phoenix area I can't recommend anyone. If by chance you purchased the ring at a pawn shop, ask them for a recommendation. Google "Jeweler repair Phoenix AZ", find some in your area and call them.

Congrats on your engagement. I hope your marriage lasts as long as mine (50 years and going strong). While most jewelers can cut and gold solder/silver solder it together, Platinum takes more specialized equipment that not ever one has. Get out the Yellow pages and look for "independent" jewelers and jewelery designers. Then call and ask.

I can't help with the jeweler, but I can give you some valuable free advice.

If the original seller did not give you a detailed survey of the ring and stone, go to a independent, certified gemologist and have it done.
Immediately!

There are many unscrupulous jewlers out there that will take in work and replace bands and/or stones with cheap imitation stuff.

In the past, some nationally recognized named stores did this as a matter of course. Don't assume that because it's a large chain, they'll be scrupulous.

If you don't find any certified gemologists in the jewellery section of the phone book, look up their organisation online.

I do know this from experience.
