Hello-
I have a model 41 with a letter from J. Michael Plaxco saying that he used this 41 and two 745's to win 8 National Championships in the "Chevy Truck Sportsman Team Challenge". The letter is dated 11-04-02. The serial number is TYA1xxx. There is a slot milled in the slide above the hammer. It has a 5 1/2" barrel. There are steel weights bolted to the sides, an extended mag release, and grips are trimmed on the bottom and at the thumb rest. There is a piece of aluminum bolted to the side of the barrel ahead of the breech.... What's this for? There is an octagon shaped Gilmore/Leupold red dot on a rail. There are 4 mags inscribed "JMP". I am in no way a competitive shooter but this things just drills.... it seems to like CCI SV's. It runs flawlessly. It sure puts the fun back into shooting when you can hit your targets consistently. (I'm past 50 lol) I will try to add some .jpg's. I would like to hear everyone's comments on this superb pistol.

That's on heck of a 22. Looks like a lot of up front weight with the added weights.
My personal belief is that the Leupold-Gilmore red dot sight is one of if not the best red dot sight ever manufactured. It has a large field of view and a perfectly circular red dot.

interesting update

I got out my copy of the letter from J. Michael Plaxco and compared it to the one shown in "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" (Supica and Nahas c.2006), pg. 294. With my magnifiers on I can see that it is exactly the same letter with matching serial numbers that is displayed with one of J. Michael Plaxco's 745's.... I've never had anything come my way that had such documentation before... It's a wonderful thing!...

That is an awesome thing to have. I love an interesting piece with a bit of history to it.

BLK - thanks for sharing - never saw anything similar. Guessing the added aluminum tab on the left side is to keep thumb off of slide?? The slide cut out ?? may be to lighten ?? for faster cycle rate. Guess the aluminum and steel weights could be swapped/added as needed. Might try to contact the shooter to get more and who did the work. Keep the story going.

Sure is pretty and looks extremely accurate as well. Would love to try this one out even with the scope but unfortunately we live way too far apart.

Looks like it has the oversized factory trigger guard and non-factory serrations on forward part of the slide for cocking the gun.
