Well, you're going to get many different recommendations for holsters. Everyone prefers they're go to brand/brands. That being said, I prefer Crossbreed Super Tuck (IWB). I've got one for my m&p9c, and I just placed an order for another one that I'll use for my shield9 when it gets to my ffl in about a week. Incredibly comfortable holster, not all that cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Also, the search function is your friend. I believe there are some threads discussing this topic floating around.

My brand of choice is High Noon Holsters. For IWB I use their Public Secret in horse hide with belt clip. OWB I use their excellent Slide Guard. Bill

I like my Foxx for my 40c, I also have an Old Faithful, which is the same and is merging with Alien Gear.

For OWB I have the Safariland 5378 GLS holster. It's a paddle type holster with a belt slide shipped if you prefer that style. I have the 6378 paddle holster for a M&P45 and find the 5378 very comfortable and close to the body for the Shield 9.

If you plan on cc, I prefer iwb. When I started holster shopping for my shield I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I decided on a Hidden Hybrid Holster. It can be worn inside or out and is very well made with an attention to detail that some other hybrids I've looked at lack. I also own a Pro Carry HD from the Holster Store, its a form fitted all leather single clip iwb, well made, comfy and affordable. Recently I picked up a all kydex iwb single clip holster from 4corners concealment, also very affordable. I like and wear all three depending on my mood, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be the HHH.

Just like macski222 said in the first post, you're going to get lots of different answers and recommendations based on what everyone else has settled on and how they use it. Bottom line, eventually you will settle on 2 or 3 different holsters depending on the clothes your wearing, the time of year and the occasion. The ONLY way to find out what works for you is to get several types and use them in different situations. Learn what works, what's comfortable and what will be gentle on your new Shield. I've found that the best way to do that without going broke is to get on Amazon or EBay and look at all the holsters available for the Shield and start buying the cheap under $20 models that you won't mind throwing out after you get an idea of what you're looking for. (Just make sure you look for the "made in USA" models so you don't get any of those foreign chemicals and inks all over you and your Shield.) After you get a better idea of what you want, then go out and invest in a good leather piece that you'll have for many years. Good luck.

I'm not sure why anyone would want a OWB holster for the Shield, personally. If I OC, I'll choose a double stack gun with a higher capacity. I love the Shield, but I love it because it's thin and you can CC it very comfortably. For that purpose, a simple Tuck style single clip IWB holster is what I use (like a DeSantis SOF Tuck). You can also get a hybrid, like Alien Gear, Comp-tac, Galco, etc. I would try a single clip tuck holster first, simply because they are inexpensive and you can find them locally pretty easily. If you don't like it, you're not out much (you should be able to find one for under $25). I ended up getting an all black leather Safariland (not sure of the model number, but it's similar to the DeSantis SOF Tuck) at the NRA convention for $21. Works great for me and I didn't spend $50+ like I would have for most hybrids.

IMO, for an IWB holster, Hidden Hybrid Holsters hands down ! Best fitting kydex for my shield and I have quite a few IWB holsters, HHH feels the best, fits the gun the best and can be used IWB or OWB. Just my .02

No reason at all you can't conceal carry OWB. Particularly if you wear a cover garment that isn't just a t shirt. In fact, a single stack makes it easier and accessing the gun easier as well.

Aliengear IWB holster. Safariland 5378 GLS for OWB. You may want to consider a pocket holster, as the Shield is a great size for that too.

Galco JAX202

The Galco Jax202 fits the Shield(and the M&P full size as well as the Sig P229/226/220, Beretta 92/M9, and many others). Holds the. Gun between the belt and pants (so you don't have to buy new clothes) and is very secure for even short barrel guns. With such a short barrel, I would not want a regular belt holster unless it has retention. With the JAX, the belt will provide the retention needed. For IWB, I would use a remora holster as it is secure yet easy to draw from.

I dig my FoxX Trapp. You'll get a ton of different opinions all with excellent holsters. There are a ton of great ones out there. After reading the insights, suggestions and opinions here, read the 50+ or so other threads on IWB and Shields. You may find some other products there, too. Good luck!
