doesnt work right.
I need one with large led display and a loud alarm.

I used my cell phone for months when I was on the road every week. Not sure if it's loud enough for your needs.

I have one I used up in Wisconsin that worked well but I never had reason to test how loud the alarm was on battery. I would look for an alarm clock that would trickle charge a NMh battery. I know mine did not but it was cheep at walmart if I remember right.

I used my wristwatch alarm for years when I was on the
graveyard shift, but now that Im on day shift I find that I
sleep deeper and have slept through the wristwatch alarm.
thanks for the input though.

Most battery backups are only there to keep the time accurate during power outages. They usually won't run the alarm function.

Instead, just get whatever alarm clock you like and run it off a small computer battery backup/uninteruptible power supply unit. That way, if the power is off, it will still wake you.

Sony makes really good one's I used one for years but my wife could no longer stand the LOUD buzzing sound. She opted for an lcd & internet model that makes "sounds" I don't like the thing. My cell phone or it's alarm feature usually wakes me up before IT does. In my experience SONY makes a loud, bright, reliable one and there sold almost everywhere. And don't use the high energy E2 or anything high powered for the backup battery they do mess with the reliability of the backup for some reason.

I think the same thing may of happened to those people that work at airport towers. :D:D

I bought an electric clock at WalMart that has two inch numbers in a digital display. If the power goes off, it has a battery that keeps it running.

The alarm will wake up the dead and scares me out of bed.

Best off, it cost me less then $15.

This is what I have (a number of years old): Amazon.com: Emerson CKS3029 - Clock radio: Electronics

There are newer models from Emerson that have the "smart set" technology.

It is the best alarm clock I've had. If the power goes out, it keeps the alarm in memory and goes off at the right time. We had a power outage during the last big storm; it was off most of the night. My wife thought it wouldn't go off as the display was off; at exactly 5:35 it went off just like it was supposed to.

The best part is, as soon as it's plugged in, it sets itself without you having to do it. It does the daylight savings time automatically. You never have to manually adjust it, ever. It just always has the correct time.

I think mine is a Sony and I have had it for years. It has an LED display where the numbers are 2 inches tall. I got it back around 2003-2004 before I had the Lasik done to my eyes and I was blind as a bat without glasses. I wanted to be able to see the numbers without putting them on.

Big Ben still in business?
You do need to wind them every couple of days. Mine still rings loud and if I do my part the power company has no effect.

What about an old wind up one? My son had a cheap one for Camp. I'm sure you can find an old wind up clock in a 2nd hand store. Save the electricity and all.

Just a cheap thought.

I have used a cell phone as my alarm for 6 or 7 years. I spend 35 weeks a year in motels and have a disconected cell phone I charge as an alarm when I camp. Great easy to use tool that is consistent and not effected by power outages.

I have one of these:

Works fine. Alarm gets progressively more annoying until shut off, automatically adjusts to the correct time. Cheap AM/FM radio can be used as alarm, too. Available at Amazon and elsewhere for about the same price.

Most cellphones have wicked little alarms that can be programmed better than alarm clocks and will also warn if the battery dies.

I have one that I got at Kmart a few years ago. Huge numbers and two alarms. That is what the wife uses. I use my cell phone.
