Please help with a post war commercial S&W victory value

It is a 800000+ serial, probably about 85% original blue finish, matching serials, S markings in the right places, matching numbered wooden grips, factory lanyard hole plug. It has a good bore and it locks up nicely so it should be a decent shooter. The piece presents well even with some light finish issues. It can be bought for $460.00. Should I even consider it? I suspect it is too much, but with some encouragment, I might go back and get it.

If I understand you correctly, you are looking at a .38 M&P with Serial S8xxxxx. It is in the ballpark at $460.

The S800000 serial range shipments ran from March 1, 1946 until about April 1947. That's quite a spread. If you post the complete serial number (or send a PM to me), I can narrow that down by quite a bit.

And I agree with Guy. $460 is very reasonable for what you described. If I were still buying, I'd definitely pick that one up to go with the two dozen or so S prefix M&Ps that now reside in my safe.
