After asking about it on this forum first I went ahead and ordered a police trade in model 64 from Adventure Outdoors. Pistol is in excellent condition. Only "issue" one might have is the numbers eteched on the right side. No idea what they are. It is a dash 5 with the serial number starting with BES. Anyone know when it was made ? Here's the one pic I have of it... hopefully this link works.

Very nice! I believe the numbers on the side are inventory numbers for the PD. Unattractive but they don't hurt function. I would love to get one of these, but I just can't justify another 4-inch .38.

Recommend you ignore the etching if the gun is in as good shape as you say it is. If I couldn't safely pop a sideplate, I might take the gun to a 'smith for a cleaning and going-over. My casino 64s were full of hardened lube inside that evidently had passed for maintenance. This is a gun that should not be traded or otherwise disposed of. Good luck and good shooting.

All of the Model 64s at Adventure Outdoors were guns that had been once issued to the Georgia Department of Corrections. There are over 200 left in inventory. They have been run on sale for a couple of months. There are some really good ones and others with more scratches. Don't know how much longer they will stay at that price.

I looked on their website but couldn't find their shipping prices.
Anybody know ? I wouldn't mind picking up one for a project gun but don't want to get hit 50 bucks for shipping.

I just received my 64-5 from adventure outdoors a week or so ago. Shipping to my zip code in Ohio was $16 plus change. I thought that was very reasonable considering I've paid much more for shipping in the past from other vendors.

How are the barrel crowns on these trade in's?
Any nicks or dings to affect the accuracy?

I can only speak to the one pistol I have purchased, a 64-5. The crown is un molested, no dings or dents. The gun appears to have not been shot much and taken decent care of. The timing is spot on and the lock up is as tight as it could be. The action is a little heavy but very smooth just like a new gun. The grips are in decent shape but I've seen far worse grips on police trade ins. I'm very happy with it. For $249 bucks, you can't go wrong. Ymmv
