Positive Craigslist Experiences

Couple of threads going about CL (and other) scams.
I know they are real. We recently had a very tragic
incident near here, where an older couple was murdered
by someone answering an ad wanting a vintage Mustang.

I have had nothing but good experiences using CL. Sold
two SUVs, two tractors, and bought two batches of goats.

Got my price for the tractors and vehicles, and got a good
deal on both bunches of goats. Met some interesting people,
especially the Egyptian Muslim who bought the Tahoe. We
had an interesting discussion about our respective cultures
and religions. I told him he was really missing out
by not eating pulled pork BBQ. He was astounded that I
knew a good deal about recent Egyptian History. He had me
make his picture in front of a 150 year-old barn on the farm.

Regardless of the venue you have to be smart when selling online.

I've sold many items on Craigslist with great success.

It's important to include a very good description and pictures but also your terms need to be clearly defined to weed out tire kickers and scams.

I've sold two motor homes. One $200,000 and the other $110,000. Took a little while but they did sell. I've also hired employees via Craigslist.

CL is a good - free way to reach a lot of potential buyers fast.
You got to be careful on the meeting, showing and money passing.
And avoid all the Nigerian money order scams.
I have sold real estate, guns, computers and camera gear on CL.

I've only dealt with CL once, bought a car from there last winter in AZ. Took my step-son with, he is a 6'3' hunk, former bar bouncer. He knew where my truck gun was "just in case" The seller was a really nice guy, met his wife and we talked guns, RVs & vintage cars.

Craig's list sux. I will never try to use it again. The sellers never get back to me. They probably sold there item and never take the adds down for weeks.

Once. I needed a varmint trap and looked on CL. I found one that looked like it would work and called the guy. He asked where I was located and told me where he was. He wasn't too far from me so I offered to stop by. "No problemo" he says.

I jump in my truck and find his place easily. He was outside when I got there. I introduced my self and he introduced me to his self, his wife and his teenage son. All three living in a tiny mobile home. I probably coulda pulled it with my 1500.

He showed me the trap and told me it was only used once to catch a problem Tom cat. It looked like new. His add stated $40 and I gave him what he asked for.No haggling, I kinda felt sorry for them. They were nice people that had come on some rough times.

Got a Remington cantilever slug barrel with an inexpensive scope for a lot less than they were going for on ebay....

The kinds of things you have to worry about are buying and selling things like the latest smart phones or laptops or the latest video game consoles. A ton of robberies for that sort of "commodity" stuff.

I use it mostly to avoid trips to the dump. That's the selfish version. On the positive side there are folks who can use stuff that I don't want. So I've given away lots of stuff. The best one: I pulled all the carpet out of my basement. Would have been a major hassle to take it to the dump. A guy responded to my CL ad, said his brother and family had fallen on hard times, and they were going to just lay this on their concrete basement floor so they had a nicer place to be.

You do have to be very careful. Anything I give away I put outside so they don't come in. Or I'll meet someone in the parking lot at Walmart or some other public place. I only deal with stuff (giving away, buying or selling) that I'm willing to take a total bath on - and not be upset about it.

I bought and sold multiple items on Craigslist over the years and have never had a real problem. I still get a chuckle over the four mounted fish I pulled out of someones trash that I then sold there for $300!

I've had great purchases on CL: truck, boat, canoe, tools, computer, etc. and the best dog ever - she's a sweetheart in the house, and bird-finding machine of a springer spaniel in the field.
