RE: Two Men Dead after lying on the road to prevent their friend from Drink Driving (Driving under the influence of Alcohol)

My home town is Nowra which is situated on the East Coast of Australia approximately 2 hours south of Sydney. I think I've got a couple of nominees for the Darwin Awards based on a motor vehicle collision that occurred last Wednesday 31 May 2023 at 7pm approximately.

From the news reports, 3 men had been drinking alcohol at a house in Condie Crescent North Nowra. (which is only about a kilometre from where I grew up). After consuming a quanitity of alcohol, one of the intoxicated men decide that he needed to get home before a football game was about to start. This guy had already been charged with a drink driving offence in the past. Anyway, his two other mates decide that he should not risk drink driving the short distance home. So in order to prevent this occurring, they decide to lay themselves on the road in order to stop their friend from breaking the law. For whatever reason, the Drink Driving Offender did not see his two friends on the roadway and accidentally drove over the top of them, killing them in the process.

Here are a couple of links.

Nowra road deaths: Man allegedly drunkenly kills mates by running them over as they lay on road to stop him driving
Man charged following deaths of two men run over by ute on North Nowra road | 7NEWS

Driver charged with North Nowra crash which killed two people - 2ST

By the way, a "Ute" is short for a Utility Vehicle which is somewhat akin to a "Pick-up Truck".

All for a 1-klick trip home. That’s about .62 miles here in the US. Or a 15 minute stagger. [emoji853]

In Brooklyn, NY, 'ute' is a term for a young person. Such as, "We need to keep the utes off the streets to keep them out of trouble."

Also people from Utah (see immediately previous post). You can't script this, even during a writer's strike.
