Post WW1 and Post WW2 1917s - A Pair of Kings

I can't help it. I am partial to anything with target sights, either factory or aftermarket. Here are two commercial 1917s with King sights. The first is post WW1 (1920s ?) #178551 with the small left side logo and no Brazilian crest. Second (lower in the first picture) is a post WW2 transitional #S210450. Both have King mirror reflector front sights and adjustable rears. The newer gun also has the red insert.

Oh Yeah, I'm a fan as well, nearly picked up another lost pup from a friend of mine that came to him from another friend of mine now departed. According to the current owner his gunsmith friend did a Ceracoat treatment on it. I would have sworn it was a quality reblue and am going to ask the smithy if it is in fact reblued in which case I will make an offer to my buddy. I have never seen a Ceracoat job that didn't look like it was painted on.
I'm also a fan of anything with King sight improvements and am still kicking myself for letting a Colt Officers Match .38 leave my hands with the full Super King treatment, most accurate revolver I have ever fired, maybe including semi autos as well. It was scary accurate.

Nice pair of Kings. This is the gun S&W should have made pre 1950 or between the war years. Like the Python and Officers models that evolved from King and other custom gunsmith target creations, S&W missed a tremendous opportunity for big bore revolver match shooters in those early years.

i have one of the Post WW II guns built from "left over Government parts". SN: S210461, with fitted and renumbered prewar stocks by the factory. Mine did not get the King treatment after delivery. Nice target modification.
