Reading jaymoore's comments on powder position over in the

'competition section' reminded of our last Field Pistol Match

of the season 2016...He solved his powder positioning problem

by going to a 4198 and Re7. l had that same issue with

my 460PC... l got permission from the Match Director to shoot

the CANNON in Field Pistol as long my loads did not exceed 45

Colt power levels...Using my Speer 13 Manual l found a 45 load

using Speers' 250gr SWC swaged bullets. l now have gun, load,

bullet, Unique powder...

What about brass?? Certainly NOT 45 Colt brass in my 460..

Never Never Ever AGAIN would l make that mistake again..

l decided to use 460 Brass...My BIG BIG concern was how to

safely ignite an itty bitty charge of Unique in that big ole 460

case without producing a possible SQUIB.. l then fell back on

the past of loading wimp cast boolit loads in a 45-70 & 458W

Magnum l once played with..

l used a pinch of filler in the 460 case like my old 45-70/458s.

Much to my satisfaction l hit 7 out of 10 Rams in our last match

in Gainesville..That little pinch of filler kept the Unique snug up

next to the primer where it did the most good Safely...All the

while sending that big 250gr slug out the barrel @ 850fps.

Kinda like back when Granny drove her 426 Street HEMl:eek:

When CAS first got going, rifle calibers were allowed as long as you kept vel below 1500fps, lead bullet. I used to load 300gr lfp over 8gr of unique woth a dacron over powder wad. With iron sights my 1886 replica would shoot under 4" @ 100yds. A bit of a pita to load but fun.

I've shot lots of Unique light charge in my 45-70s with paper(bathroom) tissue without a squib or anything else. When I say a lot I mean in the thousands!
Considering that my dog chews on the roll when we're not home(poor little thing feels lonely when Mom and Dad away a few hours),I kind of got an unlimited supply of it.Besides,it is fun to watch the new shooter at the bench next to me when he sees a ''rain''of paper tissue each time I shoot.
And accuracy at 100yds ain't bad either.
