I going to start making up some loads for my new 929 Revolver.
The components I have to work with are. X-Tremes 147 gr plated and Power Pistol Powder.

I have been having great results using this powder with 115 gr plated X-tremes in my Semi's using 5.8 grs @ 1.138 OAL.

Can someone guide me the right way as far as working up a Load using this powder and bullets as far as charge and OAL for these.

Thanks

the large 147gr bullet really cuts back on the power used.

Make sure you use approved data and don't guess.........
pressures will not let you mess with this weight bullet unless
you want trouble.

Look up the Alliant or Hodgdon loading site for some data and be safe
when loading this bullet.

I have a model 986 and have found it takes a lot less powder for any given bullet as you are not losing so much energy to working the slide. Just be careful of sticking a bullet in the barrel.

Xtremes web site has a general load info statement saying the copper plated bullets can be run at midrange jacketed data. I would think you would be safe starting on the low side of midrange and working up.

I've loaded some Hornady XTP 147gr ammo using Power Pistol. Loaded to a length of 1.100", (short throat on one of my guns), 4.6gr produced an average of 905fps out of a 4" S&W. 4.8gr produced an average of 969fps, 5.1gr got me to an average of 1027fps which is where I stopped. These are a bit 'warmer' than what Hornady sells. The 5.1gr load produced an average of 947fps out of my Kel Tec PF9.

No energy is lost to working a slide (assuming recoil operated mechanism). Slide operation uses recoil energy that would otherwise be wasted.

I have a sigma 9f, I mostly shoot 115gr xtreme plated. But when I have shot 147gr I used 4.2gr of power pistol which is 1/10gr up from the lowest recommended in Lyman #49. No Failure to feed, or FTE with that load in mine.

I did load development for this combination. Start at 4.1 grains. use a chorno. Power Pistol will surprise you.

Power Pistol rules. I bought a jug just because it was available. After using, it has become my go to powder. Used just 3 pistol powders before. 231, Unique and 2400. Power Pistol will be in the inventory from now on.
