Hello all,

I am a bit new here (I generally hang out at another forum), but I am getting more interested in Smiths, especially the older all metal framed guns. I have special interest in anything match related (performance center, TC, and the like). I have some questions with which I'd appreciate your help.

So .... I've found the older style PPC9 that I think I am going to buy, but I am also thinking of looking for a newer one too - as available in the used market. Any rough estimate on barrel life with match ammo? Know anyone selling?

Question about the grips of the PPC9 - there were the two styles (one had the palm swell), for the taller guys out there, did you find those grips too small? How common are the thicker wood grips (short of buying KN grips)? I am not seeing much out there.

Question on the safeties - how common are the ambi safeties? Some have them while others do not. I've not seen the parts online for purchase.

thank you,
Steve

The only real difference between the early and late SA guns is some of the early guns had a lightned slide at the muzzle.

Houge and Nill both make wood grips. I have not seen palm swell grips for double stack Smiths.

PPC9'S have a hammer block not a safety. Not shure what the TC'S had, as I have not seen one in a while. The TDA PC9'S in 4" and 5" have a spring loaded decocker.
