PR: M&P 22 Compact Pistol Announced

I recevied an email from them today, their new campaign for this new .22 is #MAKEFUNFUNNER. Good grief...

Here's the website: #makefunfunner

I didn't know anyone was asking for a compact M&P .22? I sure wasn't...

That medium size is handy. I have a Beretta M87 that is about perfect - not too small, which can be unreliable, and not too big. Perfect for training new/younger shooters.

That said, since a 9mm Shield is my EDC, I will probably pick up one of these.

It looks like a winner but believe I'll wait a few months for all the bugs to be worked out of a new model.

What makes me mad is the inclusion of 2 mags instead of the full sizes 1!! I can see why they're doing it though, the biggest competitor to this .22 arena is the Ruger SR22 and it's significantly smaller making it more ideal for shooters with smaller hands. I really don't like the compact M&P line (I've shot a friends .40c) so I'll never see a need to replace my FS .22 M&P but can see the rationale behind it.

I just hope they make a MA compliant version this time around, but I won't get my hopes up.

I wanted a full sized 22 pistol, that is why I bought the M&P 22 to start with. I already have a Walther P22 that is smaller. I am sure it will sell.

I am still unhappy with S&W for only putting 1 magazine when I got my M&P 22

I've got a Buckmark with a 5.5" barrel. The long sight radius, and the resultant accuracy is what makes it so much fun. I've often considered getting one with the longer 7.25" barrel for even better accuracy. There is a reason why most .22 pistols have longish barrels.

I cannot fathom why I would want a shorter barrel or anything more "compact". The slim 22LR cartridge mean the grip is typically slender and relatively short. My 12yr old have no problem handling it. I would never consider CC a 22LR pistol, which is already losing substantial muzzle velocity vs. a .22 rifle. So why would I want even less power and worst accuracy?
