His checkup yesterday revealed a mass in his abdomen, we haven't heard back yet if it is malignant. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for next week, depending on results of other tests. I'm heading home tomorrow.
Update 5/31:
We had some ups and downs the last few weeks. The biopsy initially said the mass was not cancerous, then the dr said that based on his experience, he thought it probably was.
Surgery to remove the mass was yesterday and was successful, dad is doing well and is in good spirits. Initial report is there doesnt appear to be any evidence of cancer having spread. We will get more details from the lab early next week. Thankfully, the news so far is positive.
Update 7/22:
Dad came home from the hospital about 1 week ago. The stay ended up being a lot longer than expected due to a lot of complications/bad luck. It was very stressful - good news one day, setbacks and bad news the next.
The complications seem all be resolved, and is home now. He is tired and weak, and it will take a while to recover but he is improving. He is taking the dog out for short walks, he just moves kind of slow.
The doctors think he has the problem beat, now it a matter of eating right to regain the lost weight and getting out and rebuilding his strength.
Thanks for the prayers!
