I'm at a swap meet and don't have my SCSW with me. A guy has a nice 1955 pre-17 on his table for $900. 6" barrel with diamond grips. Very good condition. Photos are not allowed. Is that a reasonable price?

It's not out of the question but it's just a little on the high side compared to auction values. On GB I've been buying really nice ones on auction for around $800. Quite a few come up for sale. Check the face of the cylinder to make sure the timing is not off.

Kind of high. Look for penny auctions on GB. I like collector/shooters and bought one last year on GB for $350. super tight action.

If you are looking for a K22, buy it! Its worth $100 or more to inspect it in hand, avoid shipping fees, transfer fees, risk of loss in shipping, several days wait, as well as instant gratification! You can spend a lot more money in going to gun shows in travel and expenses in trying to find another like it. Pictures of your new purchase would be nice! :-)

As with many models, condition dictates price/value.
In my neck of the woods, an 'excellent' example with box, SAT, etc. will bring in the neighborhood of $1200. Prices will decline from there based on condition and accessories.
Depending upon your definition of "very good condition", $900. may be a reasonable price. If the piece shows use and has no box, etc. the price may be on the high end of reasonable. At a firm $900. I would look at it carefully with a critical eye being prepared to walk away and look elsewhere (depending on condition).

I have owned a number of really nice pre-17s. I think $900 is about the high end of what I paid, and that one came with the original gold box.
