I traded for a very nice pre-29 5 screw, sn s152xxx, for some reason this gun has been changed to 8 3/8, it has the correct "coke " grips. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with it. I don't consider it a collector because of the incorrect barrel, but I really don't want to shot it. I was just curious what some of you would do with it. Any suggestions?

I would shoot it.

How do you know the barrel has been changed?

I don't mean to be insensitive, but it is kind of hard to understand the point of having it then. What was your intention when you traded for it?

Standard Catalog says no known 5 screw 8 3/8 also no sn in ejector shroud.

I knew that I was buying a shooter when I purchased it. I guess I'm just trying to second guess myself and ask if it has any value aside from being a shooter?

1st - I would take some quality photos and post them on this forum so that the rest of us can enjoy your gun.:)

Standard Catalog says no known 5 screw 8 3/8 also no sn in ejector shroud.

2nd - I like to focus on the word "known" as anything was possible at S&W, and if someone wanted something bad enough, S&W would make it. If the gun is in great shape, I'd probably shoot in a letter request and just confirm how it left the factory.

3rd - If you are not that happy with what you find out, I'd sell that gun to me.:) I'd love to have an 8.375" 5-screw 44 Mag (even if it does not letter as leaving the factory in that condition).

Good Luck,
