I just picked up a nice little blue 3" Chief Special this week. The grips don't have a serial # stamped on them so I'm wondering if that is normal. Did they always stamp the grips or do I have replacement grips? They are correct with the diamond.

Welcome to the forum,
It's most common for the stocks to be numbered in that period. But we can never say never when discussing S&Ws. How well do they fit the grip frame? Magnas or round top service stocks?

This is a Model 36 no dash from about 1961 or 62. I have no doubt these grips are original to the gun. They are not numbered. S&W revolvers are like M1 carbines, never say never.......

they are Magna grips. Everything looks right on them. I would have never believed they weren't original if someone had said they weren't. But I also expected them to be stamped. Wish I knew how to post pictures.
