The book (SCSW 5th) says about 1955. Since they didn't always ship in SN order, without a factory letter that's about as close as you'll get.

C379765 shipped on January 28, 1957
C381057 shipped in February 1957
C387406 shipped in April 1957

Using JP@AK’s numbers ( which I understand may be skewed) it demonstrates how popular the humble M&P was, shipping several thousand a month ( February to April numbers) S&W was busy! And this being a single model !
