Hi, I picked up a 5-screw pre model Highway Patrolman that is in pretty good shape, with the exception of the stocks. The are quite beaten up, and I will replace them at some point. The S-series serial number puts the gun being manufactured in 1954-1955 per the S&W book. The stocks do not have a serial number on them, and I was wondering if the serial numbers were typically put on S-series stocks of that vintage. Could be the stocks were replaced previously. Thanks.

Yes at that time magnas were numbered to the gun.
Yes at that time magnas were numbered to the gun.
Magna's were numbered to the gun, but Targets weren't.
We would need photos to make a determination as to condition. If they are original to the gun you may be better to keep them together with it. DWFAN, here on the forum, can make them look new if they really bother you.
