I know about cell phones. I had one issued by the company I worked for and had my own cell phone since '91 maybe. At any rate I have no use for one except for the occasional call. I'm retired now and I recently dropped my land line and went cell only. I still have AT&T for DSL. I've had T Mobile since they were Primeco and it works for me and is the cheapest going. I don't want a contract. What prepaid phone co. is the best? I want something that I can leave in the truck. I want something that the minutes won't expire on in a month.

I am looking for the same thing. When I was living in Central Asia and Europe I had a three band cell phone and carried several SIM cards. Top up cards were available at every kiosk in every country and ran down by use not time.

I retired a couple years back. I really don't have much use for a cell phone although I would like one in the car. I have Verizon. I called them to drop my service. It was $45 a month.

They told me I could get 55 minutes a month for $20. No contract. I took it a couple years back. It's worth that to me.

Try Consumer Cellular. I got it about 8 months ago for my mother in law. You can get the phone at Sears, then call and activate. You can even set it up so that they forewarn you before going over your minutes. You also can change minute plans any time during the month prior to billing date. And the best thing, they use AT&T network, but you deal directly with Consumer Cellular. Check them out on-line. And best of all, NO CONTRACT! Simply pay as you go.

Net10 works best for me. They have several denominations of airtime cards, as low as $.06 per minute. They also have a $15.00 per month (200 mins) automatic renewal plan. Web & e-mail are charged same as talk, too. No other carrier is as affordable, that I know of. Airtime cards can be bought almost anywhere, & online too. I've cut my phone bills dramatically with Net10 for cell & Magic-Jacks for home phone lines.

I get 500 mins with free weekends for $35 inc tax. The problem is I walk out of the house without the phone all the time. (forget it)

I've used Tracfone for seven years and am very pleased with them. I typically purchase $100 worth of airtime in January, which gives me 800 minutes that last for a year. The minutes carry over if you re-up before the service expires and in December I still had over 2200 minutes on my phone. This year I purchased a different $100 plan that included only 30 minutes of airtime, but two years of service.

The best deal going today is with Page Plus Cellular. They have both all-you-can-eat plans as well as minutes only cards. The minutes only have a 90 or 180 day expiration (don't remember as I buy the monthly plan).

I had Trackfone for several years, then went to Net10 for several years, and have been with PagePlus for over 2 years now. Their phones aren't crippled like Tracfone and Net10, so you can sync your phone to your computer for addressbook updates, etc.

My monthly plan is 29.95 and has 1,200 minutes, 3,000 texts or e-mails plus 100MB of web browsing.

I use the tracfone too. All the benefits mentioned, plus a lot of their phones come with double minutes for life. And then there are the bonus minute codes...

Tracfone worked for me regarding your issues.

My daughter and son in law got me an I-Phone for father's day a couple of years ago and I must admit, I enjoy it.

Thanks for all replies. Naturally I could ask somebody at the cell phone counter but I prefer to bug you guys.:) I'm gonna get another phone pretty soon.

I use a Verizon pre paid phone. If you pay a minimun of $100 the minutes can be used anytime within one year. I pay the $100 and it last me about 7 months. If you pay less than the $100 the minutes have to be used within one month. Works for me.

We have a tracfone to use on the farm for vets and to get the wife to bring me stuff when I'm in the tractor it saves a lot of trouble and we buy the year cards I just checked it and we have 2964 minutes so we carry over a lot at years end. It runs about 108 dollars per year. Jeff

We have a Tracphone and it works okay. You buy the minutes you want and you can keep track of minutes and they also notify you when you are about to run out. I only use it when traveling as still have hard line.

Net10 works best for me. I buy the 60 day, 300 minutes card which works out to $15 per month. Unused minutes rollover. I have been on this for a couple years & have 2200 minutes built up. When I first started the phone was included for free, not sure if they still are free now

Virgin mobile offers a 25 dollar a month, unlimited data/minute/text plan. No contract. Plus their phones range from simple to use flippers, to pretty nice Andriod based smartphone.

I've used the Verizon (GoPhone) prepaid cell phone for several years, and also buy in $100 increments so that the minutes don't expire for one year. I think just to buy a cheap phone and activate it is $80 or so tho.

Any of you guys tried using a prepaid SIM card in an iPhone?

I work for a company you hate; therefore, I'll not offer any opinion.

Never the less, I hope you find something you are happy with.

Have you tried Touch Tone yet? :)
