I have found the above for sale for $ 800. Gun alone looks good with 3 sets of grips + the mags. Ten of the mags are factory S&W with yellow, black, and orange followers. No box etc. Seems a little high to me. I generally like to have a lot of extra mags but don't need that many. If I sold some of the extra mags I could recoup some of my money. Too high?

Think factory when looking at extra grips and mags. Aftermarket adds no value. Gun is priced about 25% over value IMO. Quick GB sold shows a few selling around $600. Recoup some money spent at $20 each on extra mags. The real question is, do you really want it or do you feel since you found it, you must buy it? Lots of gun guys buy stuff on impulse. Remember, there were a lot made of all models.

I honestly think that price is not out of line at all.
Factory mags are typically ~$25 used. A nice 4506 with say two mags sells for ~$550+ in many areas.

I'm sure there are some <80% models that may sell for less, but if it IS in nice shape the pricing is not out of line at all.

Almost exactly a year ago, a local shop where I had done a ton of business sold (to someone else) a Model 4506-1 with 17 factory magazines for $500+Tax.   What an insane deal. :D Despite my close relationship with the owner, he never thought to call me. Just didn't think of it he said. :( It was literally a case of buy the mags for $29 each and get the gun for free. ;)

Ignoring the above crazy deal, for a Model 4506 (No Dash) with a variety of 12 mags (10 factory, but different generations) and a couple spare grips, I'd put that at $600-650. In 2015, I paid $575 for my own Model 4506 (No Dash) which came in its original factory box with either 8 or 9 magazines if I recall correctly.

$800 for that package is insanely high and would never sell in Louisiana. However, I find that down here, 3rd Gens at crazy low prices are plentiful. This may explain why my collection has really grown in the past few years. Even with all those mags, that wouldn't sell for more than maybe $500-$550 max down here.

Thats a steal here in Los Angeles, a good 4506 sells for $1000 plus with mags and holster. But these guns are still carried here so prices stay high.

That is pretty high.

But with all those magazines, which you really can not have too many of. If the gun is in really clean condition. I could maybe see it if I really wanted the gun. I think I paid 5 bills for the one that I got about a year ago, one magazine no box, but very clean.

They are starting to dry up though.

I also seen that.....personally the other one in Columbus for $500 and 4 factory mags is a better deal AND it is a -1 variant ......Hogue rubber and non factory mags have no resale value for me......I have 10 mags for my 4506-1 but in reality I only use 5;)

Next week is the Lima show and the following week is OGCA. Should be able to find something there at a decent price.

If functioning, the now discontinued mags alone retail for $50 each. That is a great deal if the gun is in good condition! Even in Louisiana.

You must be talking brand-new-in-packaging or maybe auction website pricing. I can't recall seeing used 4506 magazines selling for that much anywhere else. If so, I better increase my firearms insurance coverage yet again. ;)

Last few I picked up were right around $25 each and we all know that I am not a very lucky guy. :)

$800 for a 4506 with 10 factory mags and 3 grips? I don't know where these $25 factory mags are being found, but around here they are more like $35-$40 each, so you are getting $300 worth of mags, don't know what sort of grips, but I'll say that adds another $50 in value to a $550 pistol. So you will be paying $800 for a $900 investment. Sounds reasonable to me.

Maybe you are lucky at 4506 mags? Yes, factory new retail is $50, but the used factory mags are not too far behind ($35-$40 retail in my neighborhood). Point is, precision aside, that the magazines are worth almost half of $800 or maybe I just like the S&W 4506 too much. It is a excellent handgun, and not just another third gen.

Now you're making me feel even worse about the 4506-1 with the 17 factory OEM magazines for $499+tax that I missed out on due to a forgetful shop owner/friend. :(

For the record, the last five used-but-not-abused 4506 magazines that I picked up averaged exactly $23.96 apiece including tax &/or shipping. Yes, I am that anal to keep such records to the penny. :p And trust me, I am about the world's unluckiest gun collector so it was certainly not about my luck. :)

The really sad truth is that I was sound asleep at the switch during the big MidwayUSA clearance sale on new-but-discontinued 4506 magazines back in 2016. :( That's when I should have bought all that they had. That was a smokin' deal! :D

I'm not exactly short on 4506 mags, but I'm not yet in mag heaven either. I'll pick-up more if/when the opportunity presents itself. :)

And you are probably right about current prices. I checked the two big auctions sites and found no bargains. There is a gun show here next weekend. I'll pay close attention to what prices are like there. :)

I would have picked that up in a New York minute, hawked 12 of the mags on eBay for $45 a piece and gotten a free gun with 5 magazines. I don’t need 17 mags for anything, except maybe the AR. That would be the deal of a lifetime, even for me and my luck.

Yea the mags are starting to be worth a fortune themselves. I can find the guns easier than I can the mags for decent prices.

Oh, I hear you. :D It was an amazing deal. The shop owner's excuse for not remembering to call me was that the gun sold very shortly after it came in. Gee, I wonder why?

The even crazier part was that the buyer couldn't or wouldn't pick it up for two weeks... something about him traveling ... so I did get to drool all over those 17 magazines. :p In fact, I called back repeatedly to see if the buyer had run into a problem or changed his mind... but no-go. :(

The gun itself wasn't quite in pristine perfect shape, but who would have cared at that giveaway price. :o

Am I too late to book a hotel room? :D
Oh, you're not going to scare me this time! :p In fact, if you come up I'll actually drive you to the show and buy you a beer. :D I'm in a buying lull right now... no particular needs or desires. It would take something really, really special to make me pull out my wallet for other than some bargain mags and maybe a nice set of K-frame targets. :)
