I am traveling so I don't have my reference books handy. Is $700 a reasonable price for the subject revolver in excellent condition w/o the box and factory grips? Thanks for the help.

Very good price if the action/timing is truly flawless, no flame cut, no end shake.

This one easily sold for $1,400 last year, so, if yours is in any kind of decent shape at all, you're getting a real bargain.

Thanks for all the feedback. I purchased the revolver. All serial numbers match, lock-up is tight, no play in the cylinder, and the cocked hammer didn't budge when pushing down on it. Barrel is clean and shiny, forcing cone is fine, and there is no rust under the grips and no factory rework marks of any kind. The finish is excellent. Now, can somebody with a S&W book handy tell me the date of Manufacture? Serial number is N226XX.

It does not have the original grips but I have a really nice pair of moose antler grips that will look great on it.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. Have a great day.

Stu

So here it is. Bad photo, bad lighting, and wrong grips. But it is in excellent condition. Once I get home I will dig out the new Moose grips, my camera, and take much better photos.

Yea baby! Nice gun!

Thanks to all of you for providing me the information I needed so quickly. To be honest I was surprised it was still there the next day when I went to purchase it.

It was a toss up. Either old school original S&W Rosewood Target grips or Patrick Grasshorn moose antler with medallions. I mounted the Grasshorn's tonight. Pictures tomorrow once I have better lightning.

I've got both the proper Goncalo Alves 'football' grips as well as a period correct set of raised diamond walnut target grips if you're interested.
