I'm considering selling my 3" Model 65-5. It has been used but not abused, with a turn line on the cylinder, and a very small and light scratch on the sideplate.

Your suggestions on its value are greatly appreciated...thanks! :-)

model 65

i have two of the 3 inch 65s. they are hot right now, i see them from 450 to 550, yours looks to be in great condition. but you might think about the sale, those are not made anymore, at least not without a lock.

It would take upwards of $600 to buy mine, and then what would I do? :(

I saw two on GunBroker once. They were mint and had 4 figure bids, but hadn't met the reserve! I wish I had a time machine, or a crystal ball. I ended up buying a new 3 in 686 plus, which is a great gun, but I do like the K frames. I shoot mostly plus P or a little higher, just what the M65 was designed for.

Thanks for your replies, folks. I am wavering about this for all the reasons you cited, and here's the rest of the story...

I've seen a 3" Model 13-2 in equivalent condition for a killer price, and I'm thinking about selling the Model 65 to offset the purchase of the Model 13.

Or I might just buy the 13 outright...no harm in having both of them. :-)

i'm liking the keep and purchase the 13 approach. everyone, EVERYONE regrets selling off their classic smiths...do they not?

You make a very good point! :-)

I just called the dealer who has the Model 13 and told them to consider it sold, and I will stop by there sometime today or tomorrow to pay for it. Still not sure about selling the 65 but I don't want to let that 13 get away...

FWIW, having never owned a K frame and having lots of N and L's, I found and bought a 4" 13-3 & a 3" 65-5 Ladysmith recently. Suffice to say I'm on a mac and cheese diet for the foreseeable future, but IMO these are the most overlooked and outstanding of the K frames. They embody all the attributes you need in a carry piece - fixed sights, small frame, magnum capability, dynOmite triggers and feel.

You sir have a leg up on me here with a 3" RB P&R 13, but in my defense, a 4" SB 13 looks and feels exactly like the model 10 it superseded, and that's not a bad thing. :)

Adjustable sights are nice, but for your efforts you get the rather exclusive bull barrel. Not such a bad trade really.

Keep the 65, buy the 13 and come to my house for dinner. Bring a rock and we'll have stone soup. :)

been looking for a 3 inch, P&R model 13 and/or 65...but there are none around at any price.

If you can afford to purchase the 13 without selling the 65 I would strongly recommend doing so...

But is you can swing both then DO IT!
Grab that 13-2 3" tomorrow morning asap.
I have a 13-3 3" and have owned and since sold a 13-4 3".
A 13-2 3" is one that I would not, under any circumstances, pass up if the price were reasonable.

I'm seeing $600 mentioned a few times. I've got a chance on a deal for a 3" 65 (I've been wanting one forever). It's not quite "NIB", but comes with original box, etc., and I think it's a pretty good deal for here in Germany. After the daily conversion rate, it comes to about $592 and pocket change. What do you 65 experts think? The dealer is a reputable guy.

I'm certainly no Model 65 expert (if I was I probably wouldn't have started this thread LOL!) but I would think that a 3" 65 is probably even rarer in Germany than it is here in the USA.

I've visited Europe a lot over the years, and one of the things I've noticed is that American goods, firearms included, are the exotic, expensive imports over there. I once saw a plain-Jane Winchester 1300 Ranger 12-gauge priced at 500 Euros, and I've seen the little single-AAA battery Maglites, which Sears sells for about $6, priced at the equivalent of $20 there. So...if you can snag a 3" 65 with box for that price, I would say go for it! :-)

Based on my time in Germany and the $$$ comparison of things, that is probably a "fair" market price for a 65. Not cheap here, either, as you've seen. Mine was $475 in its box and purse in a LGS recently, and it needed some cleaning and polishing to make it presentable again:

I bought a 65-3 3" last year that was NIB with papers. I saw it on Gunbroker and it was actually being sold by a GS in my area. They wouldn't pull it off the auction when I went to see it and offered cash on the spot. Wound up winning the auction for $580 and then had to pay sales tax.
