I’m going to take a look at a 7 1/2” Ruger Redhawk in .41 Magnum. No box or anything else. I know they are somewhat rare. They stopped making them in 1988 or so and that’s approximately when this one was made. Assuming it is in nearly “perfect condition”as stated by seller, how much would it be worth? He was asking $1100, but I got him to come down a hundred for no box. I am hoping I can get some direction from the Ruger experts here.

I would gladly pay that for a .41 Mag in the described condition. I've got them in .44 and .357. I need a .41 and .45 to complete the set.

A couple of pictures

Here are a couple of pictures of it.

Seems expensive for the basic Redhawk. I guess you'd have to really want one in that caliber.
When they were new, lots of guys would've avoided that particular one because of the caliber!
But, now that they're rare, because of the caliber, lots of guys want one. Because of the caliber. Hmmm.
Do you want it for collecting or shooting?

To me, there's issues on both counts.
Collecting: even if rare, it's not really a good looking or iconic revolver.
The main appeal seems to be that it's built like a tank.
Which brings up shooting quality.....
I've always been put off by the dual purpose spring that functions as the mainspring and trigger return spring. When they first came out in the 1980s, an older guy at our club, who had a lot of experience shooting and loading for big bore revolvers, laughed, "You'll wear yourself out just trying to squeeze the trigger!" You can get aftermarket trick springs, but at the risk of misfires.
When Bill Ruger was working with his engineers onthe design, one of the intended uses was for IHMSA silhouette shooting. It didn't quite make it in the game as it didn't quite have the needed accuracy out to 200 meters. That might've been the lousy trigger, though, as much as anything else. So, shooting wise? M'eh!

I like all sorts of big bore revolvers: S&Ws, old Colts (SAA & New Service), Dan Wessons, Freedom Arms, etc.
I've tried to like the Redhawk. Just can't.

If it were around here, it would have to be under $600 for me to take a second look. Any more than that and I can play the .41 game with a used Blackhawk.

I’m definitely going to shoot it(if I get it), right now I have 57 and 58 4 inchers, and a 657 snubbie. I only shoot midrange loads in them. I don’t want to be too hard on the vintage .41’s, and the 657 is just painful with full loads. I wanted something I could load to the max and have some fun with.

I’ve been perusing the completed auctions on GB and looked on true gun value, and I have to agree that $1K is on the upper end with no box. There are very few on either site, so it does attest to the relative scarcity of it.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I’m going to mull it over for a few days before I decide.

I collect Ruger revolvers and am a fan of both the Redhawk and Super Redhawk. I think it’s a reasonable offer. It’s not a steal but it’s not a ripoff either. If I was looking for a 41 magnum Redhawk in excellent condition I would buy it for $1000.
