Hello All!

Do you know that CT's Governor Dan Malloy is proposing to hike the price of pistol permit renewals from $70 to a whopping $300?!?!?!?! This is absolutely ridiculous! He failed CT by getting us into huge debt, unnecessarily raised property taxes, haven't addressed the unemployment concern, and destroyed our educational system, and if this goes through, it's probably a matter of time before other states try the same shameful tactics. I could be wrong, but I heard GA is the only state who passed legislation on an additional tax on all ammo. They figured if they can't take away our right then they'll price us out of it. Check out the quick article.

Move outta that state while you can. The longer you delay, the more them greedy money sucking politicians will bleed you.
I left Chicago 4 years ago.
Good luck. But it's only going to get worst.

yikes .. thought Illinois was high at 150 that would double our fee ..

people in Seattle will just go out of town and buy their ammo .. not sure its passed the Seattle City Council yet .. the city is just harming themselves and the gun stores there .. people will go out of the city and buy ..

If passed it will actually harm the city by reducing the taxes gun stores pay as no one will be buying guns nor ammo from them .. there are many other stores in the area that will welcome the addition sales and people traffic ..

Edit .. it did pass the Seattle City Council but Representatives of gun-rights groups have said the tax, which will be assessed from gun sellers, is illegal because a state law prohibits cities from regulating firearms.. so the courts will decide ..

I agree with your thought. The problem is that not everyone can move out as soon as they'd like. I won't bore you with why my wife and I can't move, but suffice it to say when we can, we will.

Hey, I know what your saying.
I was in the same situation as you are now.
Heck took me nearly 61 years to leave and settle in a new state.
Family, job, friends and it is hard to leave.

The fee structure here in CT will be out of control if this passes. $370 for the first time applicant is not the complete cost, just the states portion. Each town imposes a fee structre as the town permit is required first then you have 60 days to get your statewide 5 year permit from the state police. My town charges the first timer $70. payable to the town for the application fee, $14.75 payable to the state for federal criminal history check, $50. payable to the state of ct for state criminal history check. 3 checks = $134.75 just to get started. When the town permit was approved I still had to go the state police and pay $70. for my 5 year state permit with photo taken on site. So now under this hike it will be a total of $504.75 if nothing changes fee wise in my town for a first time applicant. I'll call it a punishment tax for excercising my right.
So now I'll have a $300. renewal fee if this passes. I am looking forward to having my voice heard and that of other responsible owners, time to be heard. Gawd forbid if they tax, surcharge ammo. This state is plenty restrictive as is and only the law abiding PAY the price. My Florida permit application has been submitted, we own property there too but were not planning on moving permanently just yet. We would net $12,000 per year more in our pockets in retirement by moving. That's a nice chunk!

Absolutely right!! I didn't even mention how this fee is ONLY the baseline for new applicants! So, yes....over $500 is absolutely ridiculous! If I could move I would have already in a heart beat! Good luck in FL if you decide to move and save money!

Did my renewal online yesterday (Florida).
Took a selfie used white laundry room door for back ground.
They supply a sizing tool online when you upload to get correct picture sizing. Paid 50.00 hit submit, will be good for 7 more years.

Living in Florida has advantages for sure when it comes to conceal carry permits.

Just hope it stays this way.

Illinois is much the same way .. a 5 year license cost 150 for the license .. but you have to take a 16 hour course which runs another 250 plus electronic finger prints and picture about another 125 so the first time licensee it will cost 525 dollars or more .. if you are a vet or have gun safety classes already taken 8 hours can be reduced from the training .. but still the other 8 hours of training I think runs 175 dollars .. then you have to pay for range fee and ammo at the gun range for the shooting requirements ..

I would love to move but Grandma won't leave her kids and g-kids .. so that is out of the question ..

To Death and Taxes.....add...... Fees......

In Pa. we're still taxed on Alcohol to help with the Johnstown flood recovery.......... of 1936.......

5 year CC permits from the County Sheriff's are still only $25!

Geez. They kick your right butt cheek, but then pat your other at the same time. $25...must be nice!!

MUST! BE! NICE!! :D

Sounds like typical Connecticut! Here in Ma. it's bad enough at $1007 but that $500 sounds like highway robbery. If they can't take guns away they just try to price folks out of the market. Heard the corporate taxes are terrible too! Stinks being stuck in states like this.

Ah Massachusetts! I have considered applying for my permit there because we own seasonal property on the Cape. After looking over the process after downloading the application it seemed like a steep hill to climb for an out of stater like me. Im amused by the whole "Restrictions for Non-resident Temporary License to Carry Firearms". You have it worse than CT with your trigger restrictions and the like.

If you haven't already, join the NRA and your state rifle and pistol association. Become politically active and vote in every election and contact your representatives.

Fees and taxes that high seem to border on being unconstitutionally restrictive, especially to the poor and elderly. Thank goodness I live in one of the Free States.
