Ok so help me make a choice. I have a Pro Series 9mm with Apex Trigger in it that I got in a trade. I am tempted to trade someone local that has a 45 with night sights. The Pro can be had here on sale for 519 so not much difference in price and the guy is going to throw in $100 in 45 ammo to make up the diff. I just can't decide. I figure the trigger value is offset by night sight vaulue. I took the pro out and it shoots really nice. I love the trigger. I did have one Fail to Feed with PDX1 but I think that was maybe ammo as I have read some others may have had issues with that ammo. It feed 150 rounds of other ammo without issue. Anyway your thoughts and input would be appreciated. I do plan on carrying which ever one I keep.

Before buying or trading a used gun I would ask to try it first then you can make a better decision. Everyone likes night sights, me included but to be honest unless you're out in the woods you won't have much opportunity to use them. I'm not going into 45 vs 9mm.

lol I should have said up front I could care a less about the 45 9 millimeter debate you could actually view these as both being 9 millimeter for all I care.I was speaking more just night sights vs apex trigger and overall performance of each gun. I am leaning more toward the 9 millimeter just for the aspect I like the 5 inch barrel and the apex trigger. the one reason I would lean more toward the 45 is the absence of an installed trigger for a carry gun some like to say that there is legal precedents for not having any modifications to a carry a gun, I'm not sure I buy into that.

The Pro comes in both 5" and 4.25" versions and the 4.25" version comes with night sights. I have both in 9mm.
I have Blade Tech OWB holsters for both.
For me, the difference is that the 5" is set up for IDPA and USPSA, with the FO sights preferred by most.
However, I find the 5" barrel just enough too long that it is uncomfortable for me to sit in a vehicle very long.
I find my 4.25" comfortable to sit for long periods, and it came with night sights.
I much prefer to buy my carry guns set up the way I want from the factory instead of buying something "at a deal" and then spending more money modifying them. Your choice.

good points. I am NOT a fan of the sites that are on the Pro Series. and I never minded the stock trigger on the standard.

Most people think they need night sights but the reality is different unless you're away from all civilization and you can install some later if you want.
You can also put the heavier trigger spring in the APEX if you think it should be heavier.

Thanks for the link that was good reading. I have a ticket to go see Massad Ayoob in the fall. I don't think I need the night sights but I had them on a Glock that I used to have and really liked them. They were awesome for the night side table gun if you were not able to to get to the lights. Probably not necessary but nice.

I think I made up my mind to go with the 45. I just have that feeling in my gut about carrying something with a light trigger. Not just for legal points but just for my own safety I feel better. I could change the trigger back in the 9mm but I already have a shield 9mm and don't like the sights on the pro either. Thanks for your input guys.

I'll go .45 ACP over 9mm suppositories.

funny you should say that. my wife and I used to call the little spermicide suppositories, bullets because they resembled a bullet 9 mm to be specific lol. however I don't put much into the 9, 40, 45 arguments I think with today's ammo they are all good rounds and shot placement means a lot more than the size. I do favor the 45 myself though.

I also have both the Pro Series models in 9mm. If I had to choose between the two for a carry gun, I would choose the 4.25" model, not just for the night sights, but soley for the ease of carry. The 5" is a sweet shooting pistol, but I bought it strictly as a target/steel pistol, it's just not something I would consider as a carry gun. If possible, keep it and buy the .45 to carry, you may regret losing the Pro down the road....

Well made the trade tonight and I'm pretty happy with it. I love the 45 and it shoots real nice. I put 150 through it tonight of mixed types and it loved it all.

Although I have both Apex trigger parts and Trijicon night sights on my M&P45, I place more value on the Apex parts than night sights.

I have never shot in any conditions where I was thankful that I had night sights, and I've shot in some fairly dark ranges where only downrange was lit up to see the targets but there was very little lighting at the shooting booth.
When I do some action shooting, I find regular white dots to be easier to get back on target than the night sights' thin white outline. I have a pair of matching HK's, one with regular white dots and one with meprolights. After shooting the same course back to back to back, my times were consistently (although slightly and maybe not statistically significantly) better without night sights.
