I'm using Promo in my CZ75 with a 147 RN, 3.3 grains. While I'm sure there are better loads I'm sitting on just over 24 pounds of this. So today I decided to try some in my S&W MP9 Compact. Using the Hornady XP 115 gr. I loaded 5 rounds with 4 grains, then 5 rounds with 4.3 grains, followed by 5 rounds with 4.4 grains & finally 10 rounds with 4.5 grains. I used HMF primers & OAL of 1.15". The top load proved fine from what I could tell with only 10 rounds to test.

No chance of a double charge as 4.5 grains pretty well fills the case.

This shows the first 15 fired cases with the last 10 waiting to be fired.

I used the last 5 rounds [4.5 grain load] on paper at 7 yards offhand. The bottom hole was the aim point.

promo should work well in the 9mm.............

With a 115gr plated RN (FMJ), 4.2grs of Red Dot is right at the
base of the bullet with a OAL of 1.12"..........and hits 1073 fps.

That picture is about where 4.8grs of Red is.........so there is a
little difference on the volume of the two powders.
Since it fills the case up faster, I wonder if it will reach the speeds of Red Dot, since I have no idea on its chemical makeup.

With all that powder, looks like you are set for a few years !!
Enjoy.

Crappy thing about promo is that you need to measure each lot if loading by volume (progressives). I have only use it in 12 gauge, and suppose it would be a much better powder in pistols.... an 8lbs keg can do a BUNCH of 9mm!!!!

My shotgunning buddies all believe promo is "floor sweepings"

Just started using Red Dot to load pistol (38 Spec, 9mm & 45acp). I've heard Promo is Red Dot without the red dots; but is a denser powder. I have no problems/issues with RD through my powder measure or using Lee dippers/scoops. How well does promo meter? It's about $20 cheaper than RD, but price isn't everything when it comes to ease of loading. Comments?

I bought an 8 lb jug of Promo before powder was hard to buy. I am so glad I did now. I was using it for cast rifle bullets. Now I use it for 38 and 45 . Seems as good as Bullseye.

Yes Promo is a different density, but use the same loading data by weight as Red dot.

I also bought 4 lb jugs of bullseye and Unique. Those are almost gone.

Having never used Red Dot I can't compare. I was told by the tech it loaded weight for weight anywhere Red Dot data was found. I use it in 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 38 Special & now 9MM with rifle loads to follow.

IMHO it meters just fine in my Dillon measure. I'm in a habit of looking at each 9MM case before seating the bullet because I'm told this powder might bridge the measure but after several hundred loads it hasn't happened.

I'm also loading this with the Saeco 928 bullet for use in my CZ75.

RED DOT

Have started using RD only for the last year or so. Due to the fact I have plenty on hand. Win 231, not to be found, at least around here, at all. Saving what I have for a back-up. RD seems to be doing just fine in the 9, 380,& 40-- next, to try will be in the 45, might try it in my 32 S&W Long as well. Nary a problem so far. :)

2.5 gr Red Dot/Promo and a 90 gr swc is an accuracy load in my 32 Long.
