So, twenty or thirty officers and support personnel spent several hours dealing with this person's protest. Tally up the time and expense (say 25 officers, 3 hours each = 75 hours at $32 per hour for salary, benefits, etc, plus any additional costs for emergency service personnel), should add up to $3000 to $4000 for the response to her illegal act. As a condition of sentencing she should be required to pay all costs, plus fines and court costs, before she is released.
Of course, she will have a GOFUNDME page up before the end of the day, but at least it won't be us taxpayers picking up the tab AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN.
Hit people like this in the wallet. $1000 fine for trespassing, $1000 fine for disturbing the peace, $1000 fine for disrupting lawful operations on government property, plus court costs, plus $4000 for emergency response, plus 60 days imprisonment, with the jail sentence suspended on terms of probation requiring payment of all fines and costs within 60 days, and if she fails to follow through she can be re-arrested and sit in jail for 60 days to plan her next escapade.
Some people just need a pat on the back, and that might work well when someone has climbed a public monument to cause a public spectacle; a little pat on the back might be all it takes to give them a moment of immortality on the pavement. Not that I would suggest that as policy, you know.
