Proud new 4506 owner here!

You got a great deal on a great looking pistol. S&W 3rd gens have never let me down and I'm sure they'll prove to be a great shooting gun for you for a long time to come.

Enjoy your new gun.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the kind words! Last night I showed my girlfriend the 4506--the "Big-Brother-on-Steroids" to her 5906...

...Annnnd I got a quip about...ahem..."size envy." Gotta love a girl who loves guns and has a sense of humor!

I'll update with pics after my range trip tomorrow, and of course since there's a gunshow this weekend, I'll be on the lookout for extra mags and some wood grips!

Ya just gotta have wood grips on a .45, right? :D

Best,

Heekma

I'd give three months wages if S&W would make some of the 3rd Gen pistols again...specifically the 4506 and 4566-two of the best they ever made(except of course, the 3913TSW).

I bought mine new in 1990 for $519. After all these years the only thing I've replaced have been mag springs and recoils springs plus I bought four extra mags. It's digested everything from 200 gr SWC's and FMJ to Flying Ashtrays and Ranger T ammo with nary a hitch. I'm convinced it would feed frozen green beans given the proper OAL.:)

ColColt,

Sharp 4506 you have there! Those hooked trigger guards just ooze "Old-School Smith & Wesson...

I'm hopimg mine proves just as reliable. I shoot regularly, between 500-750 rounds a month. I'll know in short order how reliable this particular 4506 will be.

In my 20 years of shooting I've never seen a gun as reliable as my girlfriend's 5906-sure made a believer out of me.

Best,

Heekma

Great Catch!

Gotta Love Those 3rd Gen's! If you get a chance, check out a 4516-2. Little Brother to the 4506, Makes a Great carry piece! Can use the same magazines as the 4506/4566, just a little longer than the grip. I found one recently that had been a safe queen, Great Piece! Now, if I can just keep it out of my wife's hands!!! :)

You may not believe this but mine, old as it is, still looks like it did the day I bought it. Moreover, it's only had 850 rounds through it!! How do I know that? I kept count. I figured a pistol that will shoot 6-7 different types of ammo with that many rounds is 100% reliable so, I relegated it to a house gun and seldom shoot it anymore. It resides in comfort under my pillow each night for the past 15 years.

Here's one I still mourn for after selling it.

They can bring them back and make a profit.....but if they did what would it say about the M&P? Remember, they were/are touted as superior to the 3rd generation. I think in S&W's mind it would be like saying the M&P isnt really all that (which it isnt).

Heekma,

That looks to be the 4506-3 that popped up on Gunbroker the DAY that I paid $75 more for my 4506-3 :) . Mine was a lightly used Ogle Co Il Sheriff's Dept trade in with the same TDN prefix as the 4506 posted by rsbh44.

I haven't been able to shoot mine yet, so I look forward to hearing your range report!

Todd
