I used to shoot in the basement 25 yd range at the first high school I attended in 1959, using .22LR Lee Enfield training rifles. We had a compulsory army cadet corps program for guys and gals back in them days.
Just looked up the WPIAL ...... still seems to be about 15 teams in Western Pa..... mostly rural.
1968-71 bet there were 4 or 5 times that number..... almost every school district around the Burgh had one. Mt Lebanon still seems to have a team ...... but 5 and 5 for the year........................
We were WPIAL champs in 71...... 10 and 0....... and second in state by one point......it was a long bus ride home from State College!!!!!!
