Pulling the engine out of my Torino

My job put me back in quarantine again. So I decided to pull the engine and transmission out of my 68 Torino GT.

I learned some things about my torino. One thing Ford designer was smoking some really good stuff when designing this car. The other thing is the guy that built this car back in the 90s was on smocking even better stuff then the ford guys.

The other stuff is the engine and transmission needs to be freshen up really bad. The Torino GT is in worst shape than I thought.

The transmission is actually older than my car. It's a T10 transmission.

The 302 needs to be freshen up or completely rebuilt.

Yeah, I posted plenty of pictures of my car here over the years. I can't get the thing to work to post more. I'm selling the engine, transfer and the mufflers. The car was using super 44s. I didn't know that until today.

The transmission is actually a T10. The 68 Torino GT itself is a strike car using parts it wasn't supposed to. Like a 289. But I know ford stop using T10s when they started using top loaders. I'm going to use the money to buy parts for my 427 FE.

I actually tried to get this car street worthy to impress a girl I know. The girl and the car got me in plenty of trouble. The girl herself didn't do anything. But everyone else tried to.
The Torino, me and my great uncle got it running just good enough to get it to his house. He is a master machanic. We had a falling out shortly later. I didn't had a place for because my dad reclaimed his garage. So I had to drive it without brakes to my grandparents house down the road. I have a barn I was going to rebuild for my car. But it's not worth it. So I got a carport I had to take apart, move and rebuild.
I drove my torino again without brakes to my house. I am done with all that. It is time to tear it apart for a proper rebuild.

My grandparents thought it was funny how all that trouble I got myself into to impress a girl.

Considering how much I found wrong with my car. I am happy I didn't get it road worthy. The transmission is leaking fluids bad.

About the girl. I got her number. But she hasn't seen the car though.

You are so right about that.

Going to try to finish up the tear down today. I'm going to have to cut the brakes off at another date. I have found the body is in amazing shape. But there is some rot that will need to be fixed later.

I wish the train was a top loader. I would simply rebuild it for a big block. I'm sure everyone here knows that ford 427 big block destroying T10 is the real reason ford made the top loader.

If I try to use this transmission, even after a respec. As soon as I put my foot on it at a stop light. My 427 will blow this transmission to hell.

Do you have a block yet?

I've been into the Ford thing since 1985 when I bought my first...a new 1985 Mustang LX coupe with the 5.0 package. Still have it and built up a nice 427 cube Windsor based on a Dart Race block and running a pair of Holley 660's.
Making a mild 550 HP and 565 Torque in moves the 2850 lb. Mustang really well with TKO 600 trans.

I got a 427 FE. I got pictures on older threads. Nice car. Not very many fox body mustangs left anymore.

I have a top loader Ford heavy duty 3 speed with a factory floor shift that came out of a 66 in storage and good shape with a 254 low. Ford and GM gears will interchange in the t10 4 speed 1957-1961.

I did it. I got the engine and transmission out of my car. I took a lot longer than I thought it would. I busted my fingers, my elbow and knees. I drop my tools on my face and cut my forehead. Me and my torino argued with each other. My torino body is in good shape. But the rest was bad. I found the transmission leaking worst than I originally thought. There was nothing holding the clutch together.

My 302 is a 1980 block and the transmission is in fact a T10.

fortyshooter - That's a nice looking Mustang. I've been a fan of fox bodies ever since high school when they were the "it" car. I'd love to find a clean one for sale someday. From the photo, can't see much of your rear tires, but from what I can see it looks like 565 ft lbs would overpower them pretty easily.

I am gonna have to clean my drool up - that is one of my dream cars. From what I remember they were pretty darn quick if you could keep the wheels from spinning. I thought they had a 396 in them.
