I am looking for a strong side woods carry holster for my 4" 686P, but I want something that rides high so it will be covered by an untucked shirt to not freak out other hikers (yeah, I know...). I have my CCW permit, so no worries there. Right now, my favorite holster set up is a DeSantis speed scabbard for my Ed Brown 5" 1911 on a Wilderness Instructor 1.5" belt. It holds the pistol comfortably against by body, keeps it from printing, and keeps it from getting knocked around. With the diameter of the cylinder, that seems like a tall order for the 686, but holsters are pretty advanced, these days. Any ideas on good, off-the-rack choices that fit the bill?

Also, does Safariland make 7-shot speedloaders in the Comp series? Or are the HKS the best option? I don't think I'd be a fan of the Maxi loaders or whatever they are called.

I just received a OWB from Ray at Lobogunleather for my 686P. It rides high and is really comfortable. He is a frequent contributor to this forum. I also ordered a belt to go along with holster (it supports the weight of the 686 nicely). Both were offered at a great price and service is unbeatable. I purchased the model 1-SL and have ordered another for my .317. Kind of cool to get a custom handmade holster instead of a factory job for a great revolver. Good Luck !
