How does the S&W warranty work if I buy a used revolver off a forum member?

I'm thinking of buying a used model 63-4 and was wondering what I can/cannot do in terms of sending it back to S&W for service if I'm not the original owner and need some kind of service down the road.

Thanks!

You can send just about anything back that's not older than what S&W has set as a cut off date for still having parts to service it.

Will you have to pay for the repair? It boils down to what you need done and who you talk to.

I've obtained warranty work, for guns I purchased used, and S&W picked up the tab for shipping (both ways) and the cost of labor/parts without blinking an eye... albeit they were both Performance Center guns and S&W does seem to treat those differently.

But... I've also been provided with small individual replacement parts, like springs, pins & screws, also on S&W's tab, for "regular" guns, even police trade-ins... all by calling the Customer Support number and being lucky enough to get connected with a "sympathetic" service rep.

Who you talk to plays a role, there has been posts regarding one individual that's a real curmudgeon when it comes to being "user friendly", and there's another person that goes the extra mile for people.

I wouldn't be too concerned about obtaining service, purchase the gun and enjoy.

I've never been asked if I'm the original purchaser. Closest they've ever come is once a rep inquired how long I'd owned the gun. I answered "a long time".
