So last night I had my 686 no dash and my 686-6 open on the table ...I removed the sideplates and noticed what looks like plastic parts inside the -6...what is this and why haven't I heard about it before? I mean everyone crys about a plastic mainspring housing in a 1911 but inside a revolver and I never see or hear about it. Someone inform me of when this change began and have the plastic parts held up...I am shocked and left scratching my head...

It's been awhile since I changed the springs in my -6, but I don't recall plastic components, only MIM(metal injection molding). Some of these had a black finish, such as the block which houses the rebound spring(can't remember the correct name) and the DA sear, which made them look somewhat like plastic. Can you tell us which parts you're referring to?

Andy

on the hammer, the rebound spring housing was the part that popped out and the sear I think...it was late and I was tired ...they were black ...probally not plastic but mim if they are black...
