I got a call tonight that my grandfather won't last the week. He's another of the Greatest Generation, who, seeing war on the horizon, signed up for the Army Air Corps. He served in the Pacific as a Warrant Officer, running one of the many crews that patched up the planes as best they could and sent them back up. We would like to have the military represented at the funeral, but I have no idea who to call. He bought a headstone and burial plot years ago when my grandmother passed, so we simply need the military Honor Guard. Any ideas who we would call in the Oklahoma City area, or at Tinker AFB?

Thanks.

I would suggest that you talk with the funeral director. They make arrangements for the American Legion to do funerals, and I am sure they have the contacts to do as you wish.

You can call the Tinker Honor Guard at (405) 706-5689.

Here is their website. If they can't help, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. The American Legion and VFW are usually helpful as well.

I believe you can also get a military bronze grave marker. I know we got one for my dad. Again, the funeral director should be able to assist you.

Thank, gentlemen. I don't know why I didn't think about the funeral director. Stress, I guess. He passed peacefully this morning after a five year fight with Alzheimer's. Thanks again.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, and I know that mere words cannot lessen the sorrow. I hope that your family finds some peace in knowing that he has gone on to a Hero's welcome. Godspeed.

God Bless. The Tinker Honor Guard should be able to help. I've been out with the Robins Honor Guard here to a couple of funerals before they changed the ceremony to eliminate the Officer. I had the honor of presiding, taking the Flag, and presenting it to the Widow. One of mine was an Army Air Corps Sergeant who served all over the Pacific theater. The ceremony was at an Army base up near Atlanta. The Honor Guard at Tinker should be able to help out.

My thoughts are with your and your family. I've gone throught this when my dad passed away. Yes, tell the funeral director and he will take care of everything.

It saddens me that he has passed. My condolences to you and your family. God bless him.
