Hello, I am new and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me identify the years and value of my two pistols. The first one is a 29-2 serial#N370416 and a model 19 serial#83K0769 with Herrett grips. I don't know what the model 19 is since I just bought it and I am waiting for it to be shipped to my dealer, I hope the pictures attached help.

Welcome to the forum..
The model 29 dates to 1975/1976..
The model 19 dates to 1980

Thses are just approximate per the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson...

Both good looking guns...

" Your gonna like it here":D

The Model 29-2 is is worth $750 to $850 depending on where you live. I don't buy Model 19's so some else will have to give you a value for it.

Model 19 snubbies generally bring a premium over the 4" and 6" lengths. Yours appears to be a nice one from the pics. In my experience, anything less than $400 is a good deal, $400-$500 is fair price, and over $500 is just silly unless it's absolutely NIB. The Herrets don't add to value to the gun at all. You might look into a set of factory round butt magna grips to put on it. They can still be had for 25-35 bucks. If that doesn't fill your hand enough, add a set of BK or Tyler T-grips. Nice old-school look and more comfortable when those magnums start getting a little snappy in your hand.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!:) I'm sure that you will be glad you joined us.

Agree with fyimo on the price of the M29. Rugskipper is spot on the fact that snubbies bring a premium vs 4" and 6". Price however, is a little different here. A nice blue snubbie start at $475 and will go up for box, papers etc. A shooter grade starts around $400 and will go up based on condition. But .357 Smiths that are concealable are high on the list of desireable guns in my area. Could be different elsewhere.

I wanted to thank everyone for the information and the welcome, and though I made a good deal on the 29-2, it appears as if I over paid for the 19, but I really wanted the 19 and that's the price I'll pay for winning the auction. I looked up the grips mentioned and plan on getting some for better concealment. Does anyone know where I could get a new liner for the factory box or a gun rug large enough for the big smith?

Thanks, JW

Welcome to the forum. Nice pair of S&Ws.
Are you talking about the liner for the wood presentation box for the M29? Do you have the old one? If so there is a forum member that refinishes those to look like new. His name escapes me right now but someone will be along with the info.

The guy who is the expert at refinishing presentation cases is Joe Cebull and he can be reached here :

I'm moving to Georgia. $475.00 seems fair for a 2 1/2inch 19, but fair doesn't have anything to do with the prices in my neck of the woods.
