I own a rem.870 rifled slug gun I bought for deer...I'm wondering if I can shoot other loads as well like 00 buck, game, and target loads...thanx

Yes but I think that the shot pattern would open up much quicker out of a rifled BBL. The best solution would be to find an 870 BBL in improved cylinder or one with screw in chokes to use for other game.

870's are popular and you should be able to find a used BBL. Even a new one is cheaper than another shotgun.

It is very easy to buy 870 barrels.
You can swap barrels in under a minute.

As long as your 870 is not tricked out to be tactical with pistol grip and who knows what, it is a simple matter to make it into a fine hunting and target machine.

If you have a rifled slug barrel you should probably buy a 26" smooth barrel with a set of at least three interchangeable chokes. As said above, changing barrels takes little time. Extended magazines will have to be limited to game rules.

I've had two 870s and four barrels between them. Hunting barrels go on when hunting and home defense barrels are on at home.

I have an 870 with a 28" modified choke barrel for hunting, and a 20" rifled home defense barrel. The 20" stays on it at home with 00 buck loaded in it.

I kind of want a "do it all" shotgun for home defense, hunting and target practice....any recommendations?

Since you have a rifled barrel, all you need is a 18 or 20 inch smoothbore barrel that's threaded for choke tubes and you are set with the best "do it all" shotgun ever made.

I talked 2 newbies into 870's just last weekend. One a single woman living alone, and one a younger kid, maybe mid to late teens. They were both looking for a simple, reliable pump-gun. She wanted home defense, he wanted a versatile hunting gun.
Everybody at the gun club agreed either Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. I own one of each so I brought them both to the clubhouse and showed them each gun.
Both guns are reliable, but the 870 is about 1000 times more user friendly and easier to take down & reassemble for cleaning.

You can shoot buck, game and target loads through your rifled barrel. However, the rifling will likely prevent correct patterning at reasonable distances. Also the lead may foul the lands and grooves and you'll want to carefully clean the barrel after using it with these kinds of loads. Avoid hard water-foul-type loads such as steel, etc as these could damage the barrel. This isn't necessarily likely because the wad should protect it, but they could - ounce of prevention...

As others have suggested, if you want to shoot these kinds of loads regularly it would be a good idea to get a 2nd smooth bore barrel, preferably one that uses Rem-choke tubes to increase its versatility. These come in a number of lengths and the shorter the barrel the shorter the range usually.

The 870 along with the Mossberg 500 are tried and true shotguns with extensive after-market parts available. There are other great shotguns, but it is hard to beat them for their diversity, cost, and inter-changeability.
