I am looking at acquiring a Model 19-9 CarryComp or a Model 586 L-Comp revolver. Both of these have a Trijicon Tritium front sight. When I look at pictures of these models, the Trijicon markings on the sight blade appear to be randomly oriented and not aligned with the axis of the barrel. I have tried to attach a picture of a typical objectionable front sight installation. In most cases these markings are partly obscured by the sight base. Does anyone in the Forum know if these markings are removable? They are unacceptable to the part of me that is a collector.

The Factory has been using that front sight on the Carry Comps for about a quarter of a century now.

There is no standard to the markings

If your goal is to keep this as an unfired since leaving the Factory firearm, I would think the Collector in you would want the front sight to remain as shipped

If this is to be a firearm that you shoot, you can always just use a sharpie to hide the original markings

another option would be to replace the sight with a standard blade. You would lose the tritium lamp that is mounted in the sight but due to the narrow size of the sight blade, Trijicon uses one of their smaller lamps. So it is not that bright to start with. Many shooters with poor low light vision will complain that they are dead, truthfully they are just dim.

Or you could call Trijicon and request that they sell you one of the sights but leave it unmarked as to the date of manufacture. That might negate the warranty on the Tritium lamp since the manufacture date will be unknown if it is ever returned

I would think lacquer thinner, maybe acetone or MEK on a q-tip would take it right off, without damaging the sights finish.

Really? Who cares? Fire it about 6 times and all the carbon from the comp port and you wont see the letters anyway, or which way its oriented.
