Question for REDNICHOLS

Mr. Nichols. I was hoping you might respond to my post about my Bianchi 111. Can the safety strap on a lined holster like this with two layers of leather and stitching be successfully stretched? The extended thumb safety on my Springfield 1911 adds just enough bulk and length that it won't snap. Before I try stretching or wetting and stretching I wanted to get expert advice.

As an aside, I also have a 13A Scorpion shoulder rig with a very similar safety strap system and it snaps OK.

Easy, yours is not off by much. Holster your pistol, rap the muzzle end of the holster HARD a few times on a benchtop. While pressing down on that overstrap's fold and you'll find you can slide the female socket over the stud with little trouble. The kind of thing I've done many times, behind the counter when fitting a customer's pistol to something from a stock bin.

No Luck. The trigger Guard is hard against the welt. Other suggestions?

Soak the strap ONLY in hot water. Wrap the rear of Your gun in plastic wrap and cinch the strap around it and snap it. Let it dry naturally. Should solve Your problem.

Ah, well, that extended safety would have to come off for a factory 111 strap to fit the pistol. Old Armand Swenson was a dear friend (we lived in the same township called Fallbrook) and these safeties were for the competition crowd who didn't use safety straps at all.

I thought maybe that would be the answer.. I don't think I'll attempt to stretch the strap; instead I think I'll let this one go as I have other nice holsters that will work.

I have one inquiry on another forum that asked for first dibs: it is on it's way to Colorado to someone who can use it.

Query: Since the general mode of carry for a 1911 is cocked and locked, and I presume that this holster would have been designed for such, will cocking the hammer give you enough more room?
