A friend is interested in buying a Nikko "Golden Eagle" rifle in 7mm Remington magnum.

Neither of us is familiar with the brand and its history. I'm more familar with revolvers and military rifles.

I know that Nikko was/is a Japanese manufacture that produced a variety of rifles and shotguns for different distributors & manufacturers.

Any advice, good, bad or indifferent regarding these guns? Accuracy, overall quality, availability of parts & service?

Thanks!

My wife had one in 22/250 when we got married.

It was a nice well made rifle, and was accurate. However the action was too big and heavy for a 22.250 IMHO, but would be just right for a 7mm Mag.

Golden Eagle

I've had a .300 Win Mag for about 15 years with no problems at all. It does have a skinny barrel, so I don't know if accuracy wains as it heats up from firing. Five or six fairly rapid shots at the range doesn't seem to affect it. I haven't found the recoil to be excessive at all. (Actually, my Model 94 Winchester seems to kick more because it really is a light weight rifle.) I would recommend the Golden Eagle, but I there are other more desirable rifles I'd rather have for about the same price.
