Hello friends,
I am in hopes I posted this question in the correct forum. I picked up a K-38 Yesterday circa 1950 and the fella I bought it from threw this holster in saying it "Belonged with the K-38". My holster knowledge is limited. I know there was a Holster Maker in Texas with the last name "Myres" but his holsters were as I said, made in Texas. This holster as you can see is Stamped Myres, made in Mexico. Someone has signed it as well, "Bob Martin, Texas". I am wondering if anyone might have any information on the significance of this Signed name or the holster in general. From what little info I can find, it may have been made by the Elder Myres' son, Dale.

Thanks in Advance
Daniel

***Edit*** There seems to be a date scrolled on the inside flap 8-71

Despite being S.D. Myres Jr. Dale did not end up running the Myres Saddlery after Tio Sam’s death. He started a competing business selling holsters made for him in Mexico. That's a new mark to me, my Dale Myres holsters have a different stamp.

Regards,
From an old post by turnerriver.

Thank you, Tim- Dale Myres also offered a holster with a bore brush inside-the middle holster in the photo has a Chicago screw that holds a bore brush so that the end of the barrel fits down over it.
As the photo in my post that Tim shared shows, Dale Myres’ Mexican made holsters were not the equal of Tio Sam’s Texas made holsters.

Regards,
John, the bore brush in the bottom of the holster seems like a pretty unique idea. Did the gun “find” the brush easily or did you have to be really careful when re-holstering?

Unless it’s a Flap-Holster, I prefer open-bottom holsters that let leaves/twigs/trash fall out and not collect in the bottom. (I do have a preference for Flap holsters, especially in the woods or when hunting or carrying a long-gun.)
I can’t imagine liking a bore-brush inside my holster. Have you become used to it..?? or is it merely a curiosity? I imagine any debris in the barrel would simply be jammed further into the bbl by a brush.
What if the brush broke-off and remained in the bbl when the gun were withdrawn to fire?

The "Medley Brush" was intended at a retention device.
It was favorably noted by Jeff Cooper in his 1958 Fighting Handguns book!!

1956 patent 2,758,762 attached as pdf.

The invention relates to a personal weapon carrier and
has as its general object to provide a safety device for
positioning and holding the weapon within the carrier
as well as preventing any accidental firing of the weapon
while positioned within the carrier.
